The VEVOR 13-gallon air compressor is a portable, oil-free compressor with a 2HP motor and a 125 PSI maximum pressure. It's meant for garage and home-workshop jobs such as inflating tyres, running nailers and staplers, and light spray painting, and it rolls on two 7-inch rubber wheels.

Tank size, pressure and airflow

Three numbers describe a compressor's capability. Tank size here is 13 gallons (about 49 litres), which is the reserve of compressed air. Maximum pressure is 125 PSI. Air delivery is 4.6 SCFM at 90 PSI, and this is the one that matters most for tools.

SCFM (standard cubic feet per minute) is how much air the compressor can supply continuously. Pneumatic tools list how much air they need at 90 PSI, and the compressor's SCFM should be at least that figure. Tools that run briefly, such as nail guns, are forgiving because the tank covers short bursts. Tools that run continuously, such as sanders and spray guns, need more airflow. VEVOR says the unit supports staplers, nail guns, wrenches, drills, spray guns, caulking guns and chisels, but check each tool's air requirement against 4.6 SCFM.

VEVOR also says it can inflate quickly, in about three minutes, though the time depends on what is being filled.

What oil-free means

An oil-free compressor doesn't need oil in the pump, so there's no oil level to check or change. In general, that means less upkeep and no oil in the air stream, and it's why many home users choose this design. Oil-free pumps tend to be louder than oil-lubricated ones, but VEVOR rates this model at 66dB, which it describes as ultra-quiet. That's the brand's figure, measured under its own conditions, so what you hear in your garage may differ. Hearing protection is sensible with any compressor.

Power and setup

The compressor works on 120V/60Hz single-phase power, which is an ordinary household outlet. Check the circuit's amp capacity, and avoid long thin extension cords, which can starve the motor. Follow the manual on first-time setup, the tank's drain valve and the pressure settings.

Portability and what's included

The unit measures about 17.5 x 16.5 x 33.3 inches (roughly 44 x 42 x 85 cm) and weighs 67.2 lb (about 30.5 kg). The 7-inch rubber wheels help you move it, and VEVOR says it's compact enough for a garage corner. Upgraded piping and valves are described as reducing leaks.

In the box: the compressor, two 1/4-inch plastic shell air filters, two wheels, two foot pads and the mounting screw kits for the wheels and pads. No hose or accessories are listed, so check what you'll need separately.

Who it suits

It suits home users with a garage or workshop who inflate tyres, do woodworking with nailers, or paint small projects. It's less suited to heavy continuous tools such as die grinders or sandblasters, which need much more airflow.

What to check before you buy

  • Tool demand: compare each tool's SCFM at 90 PSI with the 4.6 SCFM supplied.
  • Hose and fittings: check what connectors your tools use, and whether you need a hose.
  • Power: confirm the outlet and circuit, and keep any extension cord short and heavy-duty.
  • Space: it's about 33 inches tall and heavy enough that you'll want a plan to move it.
  • Upkeep: drain moisture from the tank regularly, as the manual describes.
  • Noise: 66dB is the brand's figure; check it works for where you'll use it.
