The VEVOR 4.8 gallon air compressor is a portable, oil-free unit for light to medium air tasks. VEVOR lists tyre inflation, auto repair, spray painting and nailing in woodwork as typical uses. It also says the compressor can power tools such as nail guns, impact wrenches, spray guns and pneumatic screwdrivers.

Motor and air delivery

VEVOR rates the motor at 900W (1.2 HP) running up to 3,500 r/min, and the air delivery at 2.2 CFM at 90 PSI. CFM tells you how much air the compressor produces, and it is the number to compare with a tool's requirement. Tools that run continuously, such as sprayers and sanders, use much more air than a nailer that fires occasionally. The maximum pressure is 116 PSI.

What oil-free means

An oil-free compressor does not have an oil sump to check or change. In general this means less upkeep and a lighter unit, but they tend to be louder than oil-lubricated models. The compressor reaches 4.8 gallons (about 18 L) of tank volume, which gives a small reserve so the motor does not have to run constantly.

Noise

VEVOR rates the compressor at 70 dB and says it has two silencers, each with a muffler cover, a rubber muffler pipe and filter cotton. VEVOR says these cut noise and keep fine dust out. Noise figures depend on how and where they are measured, so a garage will sound different from an open yard.

Twin cylinders and hose

VEVOR says the compressor uses a double tube and double cylinder intake to save time. The intake pipe is made of silicone, rated to 392°F, with stainless steel braiding.

Build and protection

The tank is made from Q235B structural steel with a three-layer coating: a rust and wear-resistant layer, a plastic powder layer and the steel itself. VEVOR gives a maximum bearing pressure of 3.5 MPa and says the tank is seamlessly welded. For protection, it lists two large cooling fans and automatic overheating protection, plus automatic shut-off or pressure relief if the current or tank pressure is too high. Always follow the manual, wear eye and ear protection, and drain the tank as instructed.

Size and power

It measures about 20.5 x 11.4 x 20.5 inches (52 x 29 x 52 cm) and weighs 34 lb (about 15.4 kg). The listed model is a 220-240V, 50Hz unit, so check this against your local supply before ordering.

Who it suits

It suits home garages, hobby woodworkers and DIY painters who want a compact compressor for tyres, nailing and light spraying. Heavy continuous tools may need more air than 2.2 CFM.

What to check before you buy

  • Voltage: the listing gives 220-240V, 50Hz.
  • Tool air demand: compare your tools' CFM at 90 PSI with 2.2 CFM.
  • Fittings and hose: check you have the right couplers and hose.
  • Noise: consider where it will run and who is nearby.
  • Upkeep: check how and how often to drain the tank and clean the filters.
