The VEVOR portable band saw is a handheld band saw for cutting metal, plastic pipe and similar stock on a job site or in a workshop. Because the blade is a continuous loop, it cuts in one direction and can make deep cuts through pipe, angle iron and bar that a circular saw or reciprocating saw handles less cleanly. A removable base lets it work as a small bench-style saw too.

Cutting capacity

VEVOR gives two sets of capacity numbers. Without the base, the saw handles rectangular stock up to 4.7 x 4.7 in and round stock up to 5 in. With the base fitted, capacity is 3.9 x 3.2 in for rectangular stock and 3.93 in for round stock. The base takes up some depth, so the range is smaller with it.

Motor and speed

The motor is rated at 1100W and 10 amps and described as pure copper. Cutting speed is variable, from 137.8 to 472.4 ft/min. In general, slower blade speeds suit harder metals such as steel, while faster speeds suit softer materials such as aluminium, plastic and wood. VEVOR says the saw gives smooth cuts without sparks or burrs. Always use the blade and speed combination the manual recommends for the material.

The removable base and angle cuts

The alloy steel base can be removed or attached. It is described as swiveling from 0° to 45°, and the cutting range as 45°-90°. With the base on, material is held stable on the workbench, which helps with repeat cuts and mitres. With it off, you can take the saw to the work, such as a pipe that is already fixed in place.

Handling and guard

VEVOR describes a balanced body with a soft-grip rear handle. The blade guard can be adjusted to reduce jamming and keep hands away from the blade. As with any saw, clamp the work, keep hands clear and wear eye protection and gloves as the manual advises.

Materials

The listing names metal, steel, aluminium, composite cable, angle iron and PVC pipe. Blade choice matters: bi-metal blades with the right tooth pitch are the usual choice for steel, with finer teeth for thin-walled tube and coarser teeth for thicker stock.

Size and weight

The packaged dimensions are about 23.2 x 17.7 x 14 in, and it weighs 28.7 lb (around 13 kg) including packaging and parts. It runs on 110V mains power.

Who it suits

It suits electricians, plumbers, welders, fabricators and DIYers cutting conduit, threaded rod, pipe, angle iron and bar stock, where portability and a clean cut matter.

What to check before you buy

  • Largest stock: compare your material's size with the capacity, with and without the base.
  • Blades: confirm the blade length and type, and which spares you'll need.
  • Power: check you have 110V mains and a suitable extension lead if needed.
  • Clamping: you will need a vise or clamps to hold the work.
  • Cooling and lubrication: the manual may advise cutting fluid for some metals.
  • Protective gear: eye protection, gloves and hearing protection.
