ELEGOO Saturn 4 Resin 3D Printer: features, specs and who it suits

A look at the ELEGOO Saturn 4 MSLA resin 3D printer: a 10-inch 12K mono LCD, auto-leveling, sensor alarms, high-temperature protection and a 218x122x220 mm volume.

The ELEGOO Saturn 4 is a desktop resin 3D printer using MSLA technology. Rather than melting plastic filament, it cures liquid resin with light, which suits small, finely detailed models. This page explains what its main features mean.

How MSLA printing works

MSLA stands for masked stereolithography. An LED light shines through an LCD screen that acts as a mask, curing a whole layer of liquid resin at once. A build plate lifts the model out of a resin vat layer by layer. Because the full layer cures together, print time depends on the number of layers rather than how detailed each layer is.

What a 12K mono LCD means

The Saturn 4 has a 10-inch 12K monochrome LCD. The pixel count sets the finest detail in each layer: a higher number of pixels over the same area typically means smaller pixels and sharper features. Monochrome screens pass more light than colour ones, which generally cures resin faster and lasts longer. ELEGOO pairs the screen with a COB light source and a Fresnel collimating lens, which it says give clarity and intricate detail.

The build volume is 218 x 122 x 220 mm (about 8.6 x 4.8 x 8.7 inches). That is well suited to miniatures, figures, jewellery patterns and dental or engineering models, but not large parts.

Auto-levelling and self-check

Mechanical sensors support one-click leveling of the platform, which removes the manual paper-and-screw routine. A one-click self-check before printing is meant to catch problems before a print starts. ELEGOO also lists foreign-object detection and alarms for resin shortage and leveling failures.

High-temperature protection and cooling

If the LED temperature exceeds a set limit, ELEGOO says the printer sounds an alarm and halts printing. A cooling system is included to reduce wear. A 9H tempered-glass screen protector shields the LCD from scratches.

Size

The unit measures 12.9 x 21.6 x 13.0 inches and weighs 29.8 lb (about 13.5 kg).

Who it suits

It suits makers who care about fine surface detail: tabletop gaming miniatures, models and small prototypes. It is less suited to large functional parts.

What to check before you buy

  • Resin handling: liquid resin is messy. Follow the resin maker's instructions on gloves, ventilation and disposal.
  • Washing and curing: prints typically need cleaning and extra UV curing, which may mean extra equipment.
  • Space: you will need a ventilated, stable workspace.
  • Print size: confirm your models fit in 218 x 122 x 220 mm.
  • Consumables: FEP film, vats and screens eventually wear out.
  • Software: you will need a slicer; check which file types are supported.

The short version
