ELEGOO Saturn 4 12K Resin 3D Printer: features, specs and who it suits

The ELEGOO Saturn 4 is a 12K mono LCD resin printer with one-click auto levelling, a resin sensor, COB light and a 218.88 x 122.88 x 220 mm build volume.

The ELEGOO Saturn 4 is an MSLA resin 3D printer with a 10-inch, 12K monochrome LCD. It cures liquid photopolymer resin layer by layer using light, and it is designed for small, detailed objects such as miniatures, figurines and prototypes. Here is what its main features mean.

What 12K resolution means

The screen has 11520 x 5120 pixels. ELEGOO gives the XY resolution as 19 x 24 µm, meaning each pixel is a few hundredths of a millimetre across. A higher pixel count lets the printer reproduce fine surface detail and sharper edges. The finish still depends on the resin, the exposure settings and the layer height.

How MSLA printing works

In MSLA (masked stereolithography), a light source shines through an LCD that shows each layer as a mask, curing resin in the tank above it. The build plate then lifts, and the process repeats. Because a whole layer cures at once, print time depends on the model's height, not on how many items are on the plate.

Light source and lens

ELEGOO uses a COB light source with a Fresnel collimating lens. Collimating means the light is made parallel, so it lands evenly across the screen. The brand reports 92% light uniformity and an astigmatism coefficient within 0.5%, and says this gives smoother surfaces and better accuracy.

Auto levelling

On a resin printer, the build plate must sit parallel to the screen. ELEGOO says the Saturn 4 does this with one click, using a mechanical sensor and springs inside the build plate, so you can print soon after unboxing. Following the manual's setup steps is still advised.

Mechanical sensor

The same sensor can detect resin shortage and residues, which ELEGOO says improves print success and extends the printer's life. A one-click self-check confirms that the printer is operating normally. A resin sensor helps avoid a failed print caused by an under-filled tank.

Build volume and day-to-day features

The build volume is 218.88 x 122.88 x 220 mm, roughly 8.6 x 4.8 x 8.7 inches. ELEGOO also lists:

  • An advanced cooling system
  • A laser-engraved build plate for adhesion
  • A flip-top cover for easy access
  • A quick-release build plate
  • A pour-friendly resin tank that can be replaced

The printer ships at about 26.1 x 17.8 x 18.0 inches and 29.8 lb, so it needs a stable bench.

Working safely with resin

Liquid resin is a chemical and needs care: gloves, ventilation and eye protection are the usual advice, and printed parts normally need washing and curing afterwards. Those extras are not described in the listing, so read the resin maker's safety sheet and the printer's manual. Plan where you will keep resin and dispose of waste.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, tabletop gamers, jewellery makers and designers who need small, finely detailed parts and are happy to handle the post-processing.

What to check before you buy

  • Print size: compare the build volume with your typical models.
  • Resin type: check which resins the printer supports.
  • Washing and curing: you may need a separate wash-and-cure station and isopropyl alcohol or a water-washable resin.
  • Workspace: choose a ventilated spot with a stable, level surface.
  • Software: confirm which slicer software you will use.
  • Spare parts: check the availability of FEP film and tanks.

The short version

  • A 10-inch 12K mono LCD resin printer with 19 x 24 µm XY resolution.
  • COB light source and Fresnel collimating lens with 92% rated uniformity.
  • One-click levelling and a sensor for resin shortage and residue.
  • Build volume of 218.88 x 122.88 x 220 mm, with a flip-top cover and quick-release plate.
  • Resin handling, washing and curing require separate equipment and care.
