The ELEGOO Mars 4 is a desktop resin 3D printer that uses a 7-inch 9K monochrome LCD. Resin printers build small, detailed objects layer by layer from liquid photopolymer, which suits miniatures, jewellery patterns, dental-style models and prototypes where fine surface detail matters.

How MSLA printing works

In MSLA (masked stereolithography), a UV light shines through an LCD that acts as a mask, curing a whole layer of resin at once. The build plate then lifts and the next layer follows. Because the whole layer is exposed together, print time depends mostly on the number of layers rather than how much is on the plate.

The 9K screen and resolution

The screen resolution is 8520 x 4320 pixels, which ELEGOO says gives an XY resolution of 18 x 18 µm. Smaller pixels mean finer detail in the horizontal plane. Z-axis accuracy is listed as 0.02 mm, with layer thickness from 0.01 to 0.2 mm. ELEGOO lists a print speed of 30 to 70 mm/h, though the rate on a real print depends on resin and settings.

Light source and cooling

The COB (chip on board) light source uses 36 LEDs at 405 nm wavelength. ELEGOO says it gives more uniform light across the screen, which helps consistent curing. A large heat-dissipation structure is meant to keep temperatures down and extend service life.

Build plate and motion

The laser-carved build plate is designed to grip the base of the model better, which lowers the chance of a print detaching. The Z axis uses a linear guide rail for steadier movement. The build volume is 153.36 x 77.76 x 175 mm.

Software and controls

A 3.5-inch touch screen shows a model preview and a progress bar. ELEGOO supplies Voxeldance Tango slicing software with three printing modes, and says the printer is also compatible with Chitu Box. Files use ELEGOO's open-source GOO format. Connection is by USB.

Working safely with resin

ELEGOO's precautions include wearing a mask and gloves, using the printer indoors away from sunlight and dust, filling the resin tank only to about one-third, washing models in 95% or stronger ethyl or isopropyl alcohol (unless using water-washable resin), and keeping everything away from children. After a failed print, clean the tank and replace the resin. Follow the manual and the resin maker's guidance.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists making miniatures and small detailed parts, and people comfortable with a wash-and-cure workflow. It isn't suited to large objects.

What to check before you buy

  • Build size: confirm your models fit 153 x 78 x 175 mm.
  • Workspace: ventilation, a stable table and room for washing and curing.
  • Consumables: resin, alcohol, gloves, filters and replacement release film.
  • Washing and curing: these are extra equipment steps.
  • Slicer: check you're comfortable with the supplied software.
  • Disposal: follow local rules for resin waste.

The short version

  • A compact MSLA resin printer with a 7-inch 9K mono LCD (8520 x 4320).
  • 18 x 18 µm XY resolution, 0.01-0.2 mm layers, 405 nm COB light source.
  • Build volume 153.36 x 77.76 x 175 mm; USB and 3.5-inch touch screen.
  • Voxeldance Tango and Chitu Box slicers.
  • Needs gloves, a mask, alcohol and good ventilation.
