The DEWENWILS HDLT03A is a 120W transformer that converts 120V AC household power to 12V DC for low-voltage outdoor lighting. It offers six operating modes, including dusk-to-dawn and timer options, in a polycarbonate case meant for outdoor mounting.
A DC output
Many landscape transformers produce 12V AC, but this one is described as converting 120V AC to 12V DC. That matters for compatibility: it is meant for 12V direct-current lights, up to 120W in total, and DEWENWILS says it can power LED landscape lights, spotlights, garden lights, pathway lights, yard lights, deck lights and garage lights. The brand notes the transformer is not for halogen lights. Check that your fixtures are designed for 12V DC, as an AC-only fixture or a halogen lamp may not suit it.
Six modes
According to DEWENWILS, the six modes are:
- Manual ON/OFF
- Dusk on to Dawn off
- Dusk on to Countdown off
- Dusk on to Timer off
- Timer on to Timer off
The listing counts six in total, and you choose between them with a button. In practice, dusk-based modes use the photocell, a light sensor, to turn lights on in the evening. Countdown and timer modes then turn them off after a set period or at a set time, so you don't have to run them all night. The manual explains how to set each.
Overload protection
An automatic circuit breaker gives overload and short-circuit protection, according to the brand. If the connected load is too high or there is a fault, the breaker is designed to cut the output. Find the cause before restoring power.
Casing and installation
The housing is polycarbonate (PC), with an SJTW 18AWG 3-conductor power cord. DEWENWILS says this protects against rain, snow, dust and abrasion. It mounts using a built-in hanging hole and two nails. Connect the positive and negative terminals as the manual shows, being careful with polarity because the output is DC. Size is about 2.6 x 4.5 x 7.0 inches (6.6 x 11.4 x 17.8 cm), which is compact.
Who it suits
It suits owners of a small 12V DC LED landscape setup who want automatic scheduling from a compact, wall-mounted unit.
What to check before you buy
- Fixture type: confirm the lights are 12V DC and not halogen.
- Total wattage: stay within 120W, and leave headroom as the manual recommends.
- Polarity: DC lights have positive and negative wires; connect them correctly.
- Outlet and cord: plan a protected outdoor outlet within reach of the cord.
- Sensor placement: keep the photocell clear of the lights it controls.
- Local rules: follow electrical codes and the manual.
