The Creality CR-Scan Ferret Pro is a handheld 3D scanner that captures the shape and colour of an object and turns it into a digital model. Weighing just 105 grams, it is meant for people who work with 3D printing, such as hobbyists, makers and small workshops, and who want to copy, adjust or repair real-world objects.

What a handheld 3D scanner does

A 3D scanner projects light onto an object and measures how it returns to build a surface model, often called a mesh. You move the scanner around the object (or turn the object) while software stitches the views together. The result can be cleaned up and used for 3D printing, design work or measuring. Creality says the Ferret Pro offers 0.1mm accuracy, which describes the level of detail it aims to capture. In practice, results also depend on the object's surface, size and how steadily you scan.

Full colour and anti-shake tracking

The scanner captures 24-bit full colour, so models can carry the object's texture. Creality says its anti-shake feature helps scans succeed even with unsteady hands. Tracking systems like this follow the object's features as the scanner moves; shiny, transparent or very dark surfaces typically make that harder and may need special preparation.

Wireless scanning and iOS support

Creality says the Ferret Pro uses WiFi 6 for wireless scanning, even for high-precision work, and works with iOS devices as well as Android phones and Windows 10 and 11 PCs. The package includes a WiFi box, which is how the wireless link is made. Wireless scanning avoids a cable dragging across the object and allows more freedom of movement.

Lighting

Creality says the optics and algorithms let it work in all lighting conditions, including sunlight below 30,000 lux. That suggests outdoor scanning is possible, though very bright direct sun can still make scanning harder for optical devices, so check the manual.

Output formats

The scanner exports OBJ, STL and PLY files. STL is the standard format for most 3D printing slicers, and OBJ and PLY can hold colour information for rendering and design tools.

What's in the box

According to Creality, you receive:

  • the CR-Scan Ferret Pro scanner
  • a WiFi box
  • an integrated power bank and tripod
  • a phone holder
  • a power cable and an adapter cable
  • a detailed user manual
  • a carrying case

Creality offers a 1-year warranty.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists who want to scan parts, toys or props, people making custom fittings or replacement parts, and teachers or students learning 3D capture. It is a compact choice for anyone who wants to scan away from a desk.

What to check before you buy

  • Your device: confirm that your phone, tablet or PC is among those supported.
  • Object size: check the scanning range and the largest and smallest objects it handles.
  • Surfaces: shiny, clear and black items often need preparation.
  • Software workflow: you'll need to clean and repair meshes, so plan time and software for that.
  • Printer compatibility: make sure your slicer accepts the file format you need.
  • Warranty: Creality states one year; read its terms.
