The WAVLINK WLAM2C-UG69PD2 is a USB-C docking station that turns one laptop port into two video outputs, six USB ports and wired networking. It also charges the laptop. The idea is that you plug in one cable at your desk and everything else is already connected.

Two displays, several ways

The dock has two HDMI and two DisplayPort outputs, and it drives two screens at a time. WAVLINK lists these maximums:

  • two DisplayPort monitors: up to 5120x1440 at 60Hz (5K ultrawide) or 4096x2160 at 60Hz (Cinema 4K);
  • dual HDMI, or one HDMI and one DisplayPort: up to 3840x2160 at 60Hz or 4096x2160 at 60Hz.

Check your own monitors for the inputs they offer, and use cables rated for the resolution you want.

Works over USB 3.x, not only Thunderbolt

WAVLINK says the dock needs only a simple driver and supports dual displays over any USB 3.x interface, including USB-A, Micro-A and USB-C, as well as Thunderbolt 3/4 and USB4. That makes it usable with machines that lack a video-capable USB-C port. Listed operating systems are Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8 and 7; macOS Ventura 13, Monterey 12, Big Sur 11, Catalina 10.15 and Mojave 10.14; ChromeOS build R51 or later; Android 5 onwards with USB OTG mode; and Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04.

Ports and charging

  • Six USB 3.0 ports, with transfer speeds up to 5Gbps and 900mA of power each;
  • a Gigabit Ethernet port for wired networking;
  • a USB-C host port that charges the laptop at up to 65W from the included 100W adapter.

Charging needs a host port that supports USB Power Delivery, as the listing points out. Laptops that draw more than 65W under load may charge slowly or not at all under heavy use.

Size and what's included

The dock measures about 8.8 x 3.1 x 1.0 inches. The box holds the dock, a 100W power adapter, a USB-C to USB-C cable and an instruction manual. WAVLINK gives an 18-month limited warranty.

Who it suits

It suits home and office desks where one laptop drives two monitors along with a keyboard, mouse, drives and a network cable. Users with an older laptop that only has USB-A can use it too, subject to the driver and the performance limits of that port.

What to check before you buy

  • Your ports: confirm whether the laptop connects over USB-C, Thunderbolt or USB-A.
  • Power Delivery: check whether the laptop's USB-C port supports it, and whether 65W is enough for your laptop.
  • Monitors: match the dock's outputs to your screens' inputs and resolutions.
  • Driver: plan to install the driver for your operating system.
  • Cables: use the supplied USB-C cable or one of equal quality.
  • Desk space: allow room for the dock and its power adapter.
