The WAVLINK AX3000 is a weatherproof Wi-Fi 6 device built to extend or provide wireless coverage outdoors. It can work as an access point, a repeater, a mesh extender or a router, which makes it suited to yards, farms, campsites and RV parks.
What AX3000 means
AX3000 is a combined, theoretical speed class for Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax). WAVLINK lists dual-band speeds up to 2,402 Mbps on 5GHz and 573 Mbps on 2.4GHz. Those are link rates under ideal conditions, and real throughput is lower and shared among devices. The 5GHz band is faster over a shorter distance, while 2.4GHz travels further and handles walls better.
Antennas and range
The unit has six 7dBi omnidirectional external antennas and an 800mW power amplifier, which WAVLINK says gives strong penetration and long range. Omnidirectional antennas spread signal in all directions around the unit, so it works best centred over the area to cover. Range outdoors depends on obstacles, foliage, terrain and the client device, whose own transmit power is usually lower. Automatic channel selection helps avoid congestion.
Weatherproofing
WAVLINK says the IP67 enclosure withstands moisture and operates from -30°C to 70°C (-22°F to 158°F), and lists 15kV ESD and 4kV lightning protection. IP67 generally means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion. Outdoor wiring should still be done carefully: weather-seal the connectors and ground the equipment as the manual describes.
Power over Ethernet
It is powered through 802.3at active PoE, which sends power and data through one Ethernet cable. That means one cable run to the device and no nearby outlet. Check what PoE injector or switch is included or needed, as the listing doesn't say.
Operating modes and mounting
- Access point: adds Wi-Fi where you have a wired connection.
- Repeater: rebroadcasts an existing Wi-Fi signal.
- Mesh extender: joins a compatible mesh network.
- Router: handles routing for a connected modem.
WAVLINK says it can be fixed on a pole or hung on a wall, and mentions working with Starlink, a router or a modem.
Who it suits
It suits properties with dead zones outside the home, such as a yard, workshop, barn or RV spot, and anyone who wants to put Wi-Fi onto an outdoor satellite internet link. A wired access point gives a more stable link than a repeater, since a repeater typically halves throughput.
What to check before you buy
- PoE source: confirm a compatible 802.3at injector or switch is available.
- Cable run: use outdoor-rated Ethernet and keep within the maximum length.
- Placement: high and clear of obstacles generally works best.
- Your network: check that the mode you need works with your router or satellite kit.
- Installation: follow the manual and local rules for outdoor and lightning protection.
