The VUOPAX B48A is a portable Bluetooth speaker built for parties and days outside: 200W of peak power, a one-touch Bass Boost button, IP65 water and dust resistance and a 12,000mAh battery. It carries by a handle or a detachable shoulder strap. Here is what its numbers mean, and what to keep in mind before taking it to the beach or the backyard.

Peak watts and RMS watts

Speaker makers often quote two power figures. Peak power is the most the amplifier can deliver for a brief moment, such as a drum hit. RMS power is what it can sustain continuously, so it says more about everyday loudness. This speaker is listed at 200W peak and 60W RMS. Sixty watts of continuous power is aimed at filling a backyard or a room rather than a desk.

Drivers, frequency range and Bass Boost

Inside are two 3.5-inch woofers for the low end and two tweeters for the highs, with a listed frequency range of 30 Hz to 20 kHz. Human hearing typically spans about 20 Hz to 20 kHz, so the range covers almost all of it on paper, although the deepest notes from any portable speaker depend on volume and placement.

A Bass Boost button deepens the lows with a single tap, and VUOPAX says it also lifts the mids and highs. Built-in amplifiers and DSP (digital signal processing) chips shape the sound. VUOPAX pitches it at pop, rap and electronic music, and at podcasts indoors.

What IP65 means

The IP code describes protection against solids and water. The 6 means dust-tight, and the 5 means protected against water jets from any direction, so splashes, rain and wet hands at the pool are within its design. IP65 does not cover being submerged, so keep it out of the pool itself and dry it off before charging.

Battery and charging

The 12,000mAh battery supports fast charging over a USB-C cable that comes in the box. VUOPAX doesn't give a fixed runtime; as with any speaker, it varies with volume and content, and heavy bass at high volume drains a battery fastest.

Connections, stereo pairing and lights

It pairs with phones and tablets over Bluetooth 5.4. Without Bluetooth, it plays from a 3.5mm AUX cable (included), a TF card (the same format as microSD) or a USB drive. Two of these speakers can pair over TWS (true wireless stereo), with one playing the left channel and the other the right. A separate button switches the built-in ambient lights.

The speaker measures about 15 x 6 x 7.5 inches (38 x 15 x 19 cm), so it's a shoulder-strap speaker rather than one for a pocket.

Who it suits

It suits backyard parties, tailgates, camping trips, beach days and job sites where music needs to carry outdoors. It is also an option for anyone who wants one larger speaker indoors that can move from room to room.

What to check before you buy

  • Size: at around 15 inches long, check it fits your bag or car space.
  • Runtime: no fixed hours are listed; expect less at high volume with Bass Boost on.
  • Charger: a USB-C cable is included; check you have a suitable wall charger for fast charging.
  • Water exposure: IP65 covers splashes and jets, not submersion.
  • Stereo pairing: you need two of the same speaker for TWS stereo.
