The VEVOR 5-in-1 Heat Press is a clamshell-style transfer machine for putting printed designs onto fabric and other blank items. Its 12 x 15 inch (30 x 38 cm) platen handles T-shirts, and the included attachments extend it to mugs, caps and plates. It suits people who make custom gifts, small runs of shirts or craft projects at home.

How a heat press transfers a design

A heat press applies steady heat and pressure for a set time. With sublimation, a design printed on special paper turns to gas under heat and bonds with a compatible surface, usually polyester fabric or a polymer-coated item. Other transfer materials also rely on heat and pressure, though each has its own temperature and time. The paper or film maker's instructions are the reference for those numbers.

VEVOR says the newest-generation heating tubes retain heat better and reduce temperature differences across the plate. Even heat matters because patchy areas show up as faded or uneven patterns. The plate surface is coated with a Teflon sheet, which VEVOR says helps stop transfers sticking and guards against accidental burning.

Temperature, time and controls

Temperature and time have separate digital screens, so you don't toggle between them. The temperature range is 200-450°F (93-232°C) and can show Fahrenheit or Celsius. VEVOR lists materials such as cotton, linen, polyester and blends, canvas, ceramics and chipboard. The machine is rated at 900W on 110V, which is a standard North American outlet.

Pressure and handling

A knob adjusts pressure to suit the thickness of the item, so a thin shirt and a thicker blank can both be pressed firmly. The long arm handle has a non-slip rubber grip. A swing-away aluminum rod is meant to keep your hands away from the hot plate. Even so, the plate gets very hot, so use the machine on a stable, heat-safe surface and keep children and pets away.

What the five functions cover

VEVOR lists T-shirts, pillowcases, caps, mugs, cell phone cases, pet collars, ceramic plates and holiday ornaments. The 5-in-1 name refers to the attachments that come with the main platen, which let you press curved or small items that a flat plate can't hold. Check the product's contents list for exactly which attachments are supplied.

Using it in three steps

VEVOR describes the process as follows: place the shirt on the lower panel and cover it with the printed sublimation paper, set the pressure knob, then set temperature and time and pull down the handle. Practice on spare fabric first helps you find the right pressure and timing.

Size and space

Dimensions are listed as 15 x 15 x 19 inches (about 38 x 38 x 48 cm). Allow room to open the clamshell fully, plus space beside it for your printed sheets and blanks.

Who it suits

It suits hobbyists, crafters and small custom-gift sellers who want one machine for several kinds of blanks. Someone who regularly presses oversized prints will want a larger platen.

What to check before you buy

  • Print size: confirm your designs fit within 12 x 15 inches.
  • Materials: sublimation works best on polyester or coated items; check what your blanks are made of.
  • Attachments: check which mug, cap and plate attachments are included and their sizes.
  • Power: 900W on 110V; make sure the outlet and extension cord can handle it.
  • Workspace: you need a sturdy, heat-resistant table with space to open the lid.
  • Supplies: you will need a sublimation printer, paper and ink, which are not part of the press.

The short version

  • A 900W, 110V clamshell heat press with a 12 x 15 inch platen.
  • Separate digital displays for temperature (200-450°F / 93-232°C) and time.
  • Adjustable pressure knob and a swing-away rod for safer loading.
  • Attachments for mugs, caps, plates and similar items.
  • Needs sublimation paper, ink and compatible blanks.
