The Thermaltake Toughpower GT Snow is an 850W PC power supply with a white finish and white cables. It follows the ATX 3.1 standard, has a native 12V-2x6 connector for recent graphics cards and is fully modular. It is for builders who want modern power delivery that also matches a light-coloured case.
ATX 3.1 and the 12V-2x6 connector
ATX 3.1 is an updated power supply specification designed around the demands of current graphics cards. Thermaltake lists a native PCIe 5.1 connector, the 12V-2x6 (12+4 pin), rated for 600W. This is the single-cable connector newer high-end graphics cards use. A native connector means you can plug the card in with one cable rather than an adapter. The supply also has four PCI-E 6+2 pin connectors for cards that use the older style.
80 Plus Gold efficiency
The unit is listed as meeting 80 Plus Gold at 115V input, with efficiency up to 90%. Efficiency is the share of wall power that becomes usable power for the PC, with the rest lost as heat. A higher tier usually means less wasted energy and less heat for the fan to remove.
Modular cabling and quiet operation
The design is fully modular, so you only connect the cables you need. Thermaltake says the low-profile white cables simplify cable management and improve airflow, which can make a tidy build easier in a case with a glass panel. A 120mm hydraulic bearing fan cools the unit, and the Smart Zero Fan function stops it spinning at low loads for silent operation. Since the fan only starts when the load or temperature rises, a lightly used PC can be very quiet.
Protection and certifications
Thermaltake lists over-current, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power, over-temperature and short-circuit protections. It also lists a range of safety approvals, including CE, UKCA, TUV, FCC and cTUVus. As with any power supply, follow the instruction manual and local electrical codes when installing it.
Electrical and physical details
The input range is 100-240V at 50-60Hz, with a maximum input current of 10A. The unit measures 150mm wide, 86mm high and 140mm deep, a standard ATX size. Operating temperature runs from 0°C to 40°C. Thermaltake gives a five-year warranty.
Who it suits
It suits people building or upgrading a PC, particularly with a recent graphics card, who like a white colour scheme. The 850W capacity leaves headroom for a powerful processor and graphics card together, but your own components determine how much you need.
What to check before you buy
- Add up your components' power needs, and use the card manufacturer's recommended supply size.
- Confirm your case takes a standard ATX supply with the 140mm depth, and leaves room for cables.
- Check that your graphics card uses the 12V-2x6 or 12VHPWR connector, or has 8-pin connectors this unit supplies.
- Make sure you have enough connectors for your drives and fans.
- Use only the cables supplied with this unit, as modular cable pinouts are not interchangeable between brands.
- Check the voltage range for your region.
The short version
- 850W Thermaltake Toughpower GT Snow, ATX 3.1, 80 Plus Gold, fully modular with white cables.
- Native 12V-2x6 (12+4 pin) 600W connector plus four PCI-E 6+2 pin connectors.
- 120mm hydraulic bearing fan with Smart Zero Fan silent mode at low loads.
- Six protections (OCP, OVP, UVP, OPP, OTP, SCP) and a five-year warranty.
- Compact 150 x 86 x 140 mm body; check your build's power needs and case first.
