The ASUS Prime AP-750G is a 750-watt ATX power supply for desktop PCs. It is fully modular, 80 Plus Gold certified and ATX 3.0 compatible, and it comes with a 16-pin cable for PCIe 5.0 graphics cards. ASUS positions it for gaming builds, but it suits any desktop that needs a solid power source in the 750W class.
What the 750W figure means
The wattage is the maximum continuous power the unit can supply to the whole computer. A PC does not draw that all the time; most of the time it uses far less. The usual approach is to add up the likely peak draw of the processor and graphics card, add a margin for other parts, and pick a supply that covers it comfortably. The graphics card usually has the biggest influence, so check its maker's recommended power supply size.
80 Plus Gold efficiency
80 Plus is a certification that tests how efficiently a power supply converts mains AC into the DC the computer uses. Gold is a higher tier than Bronze or Silver and generally means less energy is lost as heat. ASUS says the Gold certification is the result of low-ESR capacitors and other premium components. A more efficient unit also tends to run cooler, which lets the fan spin more slowly.
ATX 3.0 and the 16-pin cable
ATX 3.0 is an updated power supply standard written with modern graphics cards in mind, which can produce brief spikes in power draw well above their average. ASUS says the Prime Gold complies with the ATX 3.0 guidelines and is bundled with a 16-pin PCIe cable compatible with PCIe Gen 5.0 graphics cards. A card with that connector can then typically be powered with one cable instead of an adapter. For cards with the older 8-pin connectors, check the cable list in the manual.
Fully modular cables
Fully modular means every cable, including the main motherboard cable, detaches from the supply. You attach only what the build needs, which usually makes routing easier and improves airflow in the case, especially in compact builds. The trade-off is that modular cables are specific to the supply, so do not mix them with cables from another unit.
Fan design and bearings
The fan uses ASUS's Axial-tech design, with a smaller hub that allows longer blades and a barrier ring that ASUS says increases downward air pressure. It runs on dual ball bearings, which ASUS says can last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs. The listing also mentions "two colour options in one", so check the manual for what that means for the casing.
Size, weight and warranty
The unit measures about 5.9 x 5.9 x 3.3 inches and weighs around 3.2 lb (1.45 kg). ASUS includes an 8-year warranty; check the terms for your region.
Who it suits
It suits people building or upgrading a desktop PC who want a modular, ATX 3.0 supply for a current graphics card, particularly in a mid-range to high-end gaming build.
What to check before you buy
- Power needs: add up your parts' draw and check the graphics card maker's recommended supply size.
- Case fit: confirm that your case takes a standard ATX supply of this size.
- Connectors: make sure the supply provides the number and type of cables your graphics card, drives and motherboard need.
- Installation: follow the manual, and work only with the unit unplugged from the wall.
- Warranty: read the terms and any registration steps.
