The Super Flower Leadex V Platinum PRO 850W (model SF-850F14TP(WH)) is a fully modular ATX power supply in white. Its main selling point is size: Super Flower says it is only 130 mm long, shorter than many power supplies of similar wattage, which helps in smaller cases and tight builds.

Why 130mm matters

A typical ATX power supply of this output is often around 140 to 180 mm long. A shorter body leaves more room for cables and for a rear drive cage or radiator. Super Flower says the reduced size comes with no reduced performance. Its listed dimensions are about 5.1 x 5.9 x 3.4 inches, and it weighs 5.6 lb.

What 80 PLUS Platinum means

80 PLUS is a certification programme that tests how efficiently a power supply converts mains power into the DC power a PC uses. Platinum is a high tier. Super Flower lists efficiency of 90% at 20% load, 92% at 50% load and 89% at 100% load, as rated figures. Higher efficiency typically means less energy is lost as heat, which can help keep fan noise down.

Full modular cables and the Super Connector

Fully modular means every cable detaches from the unit, so you fit only what your build needs. Super Flower uses ultra-flexible flat ribbon cables, which are easier to route and bend in cramped cases.

The listing also describes a patented 9-pin "Super Connector". Per Super Flower, CPU, PCIe, SATA and Molex cables can plug into any of the universal sockets, so there is no worrying about which socket is which for each cable type. Check the manual for the supported cables.

Capacitors, voltage and fan

The listing says the unit uses 100% Japanese 105°C capacitors on the main board and the modular back panel. Capacitor temperature grades are a common reliability marker. It has full-range automatic voltage detection from 100V to 240V with active PFC (power factor correction), so it works on different mains supplies without a switch.

The cooling fan is a 12 cm fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) type. Super Flower says it gives accurate speed control to keep noise down. FDB fans typically run quietly and last well.

A wattage note

The title and features list 850W, while one line in the description mentions 1000W. The model number and the title point to the 850W version, so check the label and the box when you buy.

Who it suits

It suits builders of compact or mid-size PCs who want a high-efficiency, modular unit with flexible cables, and those wanting a white power supply to match a white-themed case.

What to check before you buy

  • Wattage: add up your CPU and graphics card power needs and leave headroom.
  • Connectors: confirm the GPU needs, such as 8-pin or 12VHPWR, are covered by the cables supplied.
  • Case fit: the 130 mm length suits tight cases, but check your case's PSU space.
  • Cable length: ribbon cables must reach from the PSU to the farthest component.
  • Colour: this is the white version.
  • What's in the box: check the cable list in the manual.
