The Inateck BCST-75 (model BCST-75NEW1-BK) is a rugged handheld barcode scanner that reads both 1D and 2D codes and connects wirelessly or by cable. It is built for stockrooms, shops and delivery work, where a scanner gets dropped, splashed and used all day. Here is what its specs mean.
1D, 2D and QR codes
A 1D scanner reads traditional striped barcodes. A 2D (imager) scanner also reads codes made of dots or squares, such as QR codes, and it can read them from paper or from a phone screen. Inateck says the BCST-75 reads nearly all 1D and 2D codes, including QR Code, DataMatrix and PDF-417, and can read blurry, damaged and dirty codes. In general, imager-based scanners tolerate poor print better than older laser designs, but a badly damaged code can still fail.
Three ways to connect
The scanner supports three transmission modes: 2.4G wireless, Bluetooth and a USB cable. Inateck quotes up to 100 metres for 2.4G and up to 40 metres for Bluetooth, in obstacle-free conditions. Indoors, walls and shelving reduce those distances a lot. A 2.4G link typically uses a small USB receiver, while Bluetooth pairs directly with a phone, tablet or computer. The cable mode is handy for a fixed checkout where you don't need to recharge. The brand also lists an app and an SDK for custom setups.
Built for rough use
Inateck says the casing is ABS with a thickened soft TPU covering over more than 50% of the body, and that it survives drops from 11.8 feet (3.6 m) onto concrete. The handle has an ergonomic grip, with anti-slip, sweat-resistant bumps, aimed at long shifts.
What IP67 means
IP67 means the scanner is dust-tight and can survive temporary immersion in water. Inateck cites 30 minutes at 1 metre depth. That suits dusty warehouses and damp, rainy work areas, but it is not a licence to leave the scanner underwater, and the manual covers any care needed with charging ports.
Battery
A built-in 2600mAh rechargeable battery powers it. Inateck says a low-power algorithm and a real-time battery indicator help you plan charging. Run time depends on how often you scan, and a scanner that sits idle uses far less than one in constant use.
Size and weight
It measures 4.7 x 3.1 x 7.3 inches (about 12 x 8 x 18.5 cm) and weighs 0.8 lb (about 360 g).
Who it suits
It suits small shops, warehouses, libraries, bookshops and logistics work, and anyone who scans on the move and needs a tool that tolerates knocks and weather. For an office that scans only occasionally, a simpler scanner may be enough.
What to check before you buy
- Connection: confirm your device supports the mode you want (USB receiver, Bluetooth, cable).
- Code types: check the codes you scan are on the supported list.
- Range: real distances inside buildings are shorter than the open-air figures.
- Software: check if your point-of-sale or inventory software accepts keyboard-style scanner input.
- Charging: think about where it will charge and how long your shifts run.
- What's in the box: check the contents list for the receiver and cable you need.
