The GMKtec NucBox M3 is a small desktop computer built around a 12th Generation Intel Core i5-12450H processor. It ships with 16GB of memory, a 512GB SSD and Windows 11 Pro installed, and GMKtec describes it as taking little more space than a smartphone. It is aimed at office work, home theatre, everyday computing and light gaming.
The processor
The Core i5-12450H has 8 cores and 12 threads, 12MB of cache, a 45W TDP and a turbo clock of up to 4.4 GHz. GMKtec compares it with the earlier Core i7-10810U, quoting about 31% better single-core and 48% better multi-core performance, and says single-core performance is comparable to the AMD R9 6900HX. These are the brand's comparisons. Graphics come from Intel UHD, which suits video and everyday tasks but is not a replacement for a dedicated graphics card in demanding games.
Memory and storage
The mini PC includes 16GB of DDR4 as two 8GB modules, so it runs in dual channel mode, which typically gives better memory bandwidth than a single module. GMKtec says memory can be expanded to 64GB and the 512GB PCIe 3.0 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD to 2TB; the larger parts are not included. Check the manual for the supported upgrade parts.
Ports and connectivity
The ports include two HDMI 2.0 outputs (4K at 60Hz), three USB 3.2 ports, one USB 2.0 port, a Type-C port for power and data, a DC input, a LAN port and an audio jack. The Ethernet is 2.5 gigabit (Intel i225V), which only helps if your router or switch also supports 2.5G. Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 are built in.
Size and mounting
GMKtec gives the size as 4.48 x 4.17 x 1.67 inches (about 11.4 x 10.6 x 4.2 cm); the dimension data lists 5.2 x 4.9 x 2.3 inches, so check the exact figure before planning a tight space. A VESA bracket is included, letting you fix it to the back of a monitor or a wall.
Software and warranty
Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled, and the brand says it is also compatible with Linux, Ubuntu and ESXi/VMware. GMKtec provides a 1-year limited warranty from the date of purchase covering design and workmanship defects.
What to check before you buy
- Displays: two HDMI outputs support two monitors; check your monitors' inputs and cables.
- Network speed: confirm your network supports 2.5G if you want that speed.
- Upgrades: confirm which RAM and SSD parts are supported before buying them.
- Cooling and noise: small PCs rely on a fan; check the placement and ventilation.
- Graphics needs: check that Intel UHD graphics meets your game or software needs.
- Power: it uses a supplied adapter or USB-C; follow the manual.
