The GMKtec NucBox G3 is a very small desktop computer built on Intel's low-power N100 processor. It is aimed at everyday jobs such as office work, browsing, streaming and acting as a quiet always-on box, and it arrives with Windows 11 Pro installed. At under a pound in weight, it replaces a full-size tower where space matters more than raw speed.
The Intel N100 in plain terms
The N100 is a 12th-generation "Alder Lake-N" chip with four cores, four threads and 6MB of cache. GMKtec lists a burst speed of up to 3.4GHz and says it is faster than older low-power chips such as the J4125, N5095 and N5105. Processors in this family are designed to sip power, which typically means a small, quiet case and little heat. The trade-off is that they are tuned for routine tasks rather than video editing, heavy multitasking or modern 3D games.
Graphics are integrated Intel UHD Graphics (up to 750MHz). GMKtec says it supports 4K video playback and AV1 decoding, which is useful for streaming services that use that codec.
Memory and storage
The G3 comes with 8GB of DDR4 and a 256GB PCIe 3.0 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD. That is enough for Windows, office software and everyday files. The listing says storage can be expanded to 2TB on the M.2 2280 PCIe slot, with an M.2 2242 SATA option also listed up to 2TB.
Connections
The port selection is broad for such a small case:
- Two HDMI 2.0 ports, each rated for 4K at 60Hz, for dual-screen setups.
- Four USB 3.2 ports (up to 5Gbps).
- A 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, WiFi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2.
- A 3.5mm headphone and microphone jack and a DC power input.
GMKtec also lists Wake on LAN, PXE boot, RTC wake and auto power-on, features that matter if you want to use it as a small home server or a monitoring box. It says the Ethernet controller works with Linux, Ubuntu and ESXi.
Size and what is in the box
The listing gives 4.48 x 4.17 x 1.67 inches (about 11.4 x 10.6 x 4.2 cm) and 0.79 lb (about 360 g). The package includes the mini PC, an HDMI cable, a 12V/3A power adapter, a VESA mount and a user manual. GMKtec states CE, FCC and RoHS certifications.
Who it suits
It suits home offices, study desks, classroom or service-counter computers, digital signage and living-room media setups. People who want an always-on utility machine for light server tasks may also find it a fit. It is a weaker match for anyone who edits video, runs many heavy applications at once or wants to play demanding games.
What to check before you buy
- Workload: make sure a four-core, low-power chip suits the software you use.
- Memory: 8GB is workable for office use but can feel tight with many browser tabs; check whether you want to upgrade.
- Displays: confirm your monitors or TV have HDMI inputs.
- Peripherals: keyboard, mouse and screen are not included.
- Licensing: the listing says Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed; check activation details in the manual.
- Warranty and support: GMKtec states a one-year warranty; read its terms.
