The GMKtec Nucbox G3 is a small desktop computer built around the Intel N100 processor. It arrives with Windows 11 Pro, 8GB of memory and a 256GB NVMe SSD, and is aimed at office work, home entertainment and light server duties. This page explains what the main specs mean.
The Intel N100 processor
The N100 is a 12th-generation Intel Alder Lake chip with four cores and four threads, 6MB of cache and a burst speed of up to 3.4GHz. GMKtec says it outperforms older chips such as the J4125, N5095, N5100, N5105 and N95. Chips in this class are low-power and typically suit browsing, documents, video playback and light multitasking rather than demanding editing or gaming.
Memory and storage
The G3 comes prebuilt with 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 256GB PCIe 3.0 M.2 2280 NVMe SSD. NVMe storage is why mini PCs like this typically start up quickly and open apps promptly. For heavy multitasking or large libraries, check whether the memory and SSD can be upgraded, as the listing doesn't say.
Display and graphics
Intel UHD Graphics (up to 750MHz) handles 4K video playback and AV1 decoding. Two HDMI 2.0 ports each support 4K at 60Hz, so you can run two 4K displays, or connect a projector or television for a home-theatre setup.
Ports and networking
There are four USB 3.2 ports rated at up to 5Gbps, two HDMI ports and a 3.5mm audio jack. For networking, GMKtec lists WiFi 6 (802.11ax, up to 600Mbps) and Bluetooth 5.2, plus a 2.5G Ethernet port. A wired connection is usually steadier for servers and streaming.
Server-friendly features
The brand lists Wake On LAN, PXE Boot, RTC Wake and Auto Power On, which let the machine be started remotely, booted from a network or switched on at set times. Combined with its small size of about 6.5 x 6.1 x 4.3 inches (16.5 x 15.5 x 11 cm), this suits running as a home server or monitoring box.
Warranty
GMKtec offers a one-year limited warranty from the purchase date, covering defects of design and workmanship.
Who it suits
It suits small offices, family computers, media centres connected to a TV or projector, and people who want a quiet, compact machine for everyday tasks. It is not aimed at demanding creative work or modern 3D games.
What to check before you buy
- Your workload: four cores and integrated graphics are enough for everyday use, not heavy rendering.
- Display connections: you need HDMI-compatible displays, or suitable adapters.
- Peripherals: bring your own keyboard, mouse and monitor.
- Upgrades: check the manual for how to access the memory and SSD.
- Windows setup: plan on the usual first-run setup and updates.
- Warranty terms: read the one-year terms and how to claim.
