The GMKtec NucBox G10 is a small desktop computer built around an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor. It is intended for office work, home use, light gaming and network tasks, and it takes up far less desk space than a tower.

The processor and graphics

The Ryzen 5 3500U is a quad-core mobile chip based on AMD's Zen+ design and built on a 12 nm process. GMKtec lists a base clock of 2.1 GHz, a boost of up to 3.7 GHz and a 15 W TDP. TDP is a rough measure of the heat the chip is designed to shed, and a low figure usually means a quiet, compact machine.

Graphics come from the built-in Radeon Vega 8, running at up to 1.2 GHz. Integrated graphics like this typically handle video playback, editing at modest levels and casual or older games, but not demanding new titles at high settings. GMKtec also says the chip is about 35% faster than Intel N-series processors such as the N150, which is the brand's own comparison.

The listing adds a configurable TDP-down of 12 W and TDP-up of 35 W, giving some room to trade performance against noise and heat.

Memory and storage

The G10 comes with 16GB of DDR4 in two 8GB SO-DIMMs, running as dual channel, and a 256GB SSD. The processor description gives support for up to 32GB of DDR4-2400, while GMKtec also says the memory can be expanded to 64GB, so confirm the supported maximum with the brand before buying larger modules.

There are two M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0 slots, and GMKtec says they allow up to 16TB in total (2 x 8TB). Upgrades are not included.

Display and connections

The mini PC can drive three screens at once through HDMI 2.1 (TMDS), DisplayPort 1.4 and USB-C, with 4K at 60Hz on HDMI. The ports also include two USB 3.2, one USB 2.0, a full-function USB-C (power delivery, DisplayPort and data) and a 3.5mm audio jack. Wireless is Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0.

2.5GbE networking

The 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port allows up to 2500Mbps, faster than the standard gigabit port. You need a 2.5GbE switch or router to benefit. GMKtec suggests it for use with firewall software such as pfSense or Untangle, or as a small office server.

Warranty

GMKtec provides a one-year limited warranty from the date of purchase, covering defects in design and workmanship.

Who it suits

It suits home offices, shared desks, small businesses, media setups and tinkerers who want a compact box for a home server or network project. It is not aimed at demanding gaming or heavy 3D work.

What to check before you buy

  • Operating system: confirm what is installed and how it is licensed.
  • Displays and cables: check that your monitors have inputs that match the HDMI, DisplayPort and USB-C outputs.
  • Network: a 2.5GbE switch is needed to use the full speed.
  • Upgrades: extra SSDs and larger memory are separate; check compatibility.
  • Mounting and space: check the physical size and any mounting options against your desk.
