The GMKtec M2 is a mini desktop computer built around an 11th-generation Intel Core i7-11390H processor. It is meant for everyday work, browsing, media and multi-screen setups in a small case. GMKtec lists it with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe SSD.

Processor

The Core i7-11390H has four cores, eight threads and 12MB of cache, with a top frequency of up to 5.0 GHz, according to GMKtec. The brand says it runs faster than the i7-10810U, i5-12450H and i5-8259U, and that it uses 35W of power. A 35W processor is typically a laptop-class chip, which tends to mean modest power draw and heat in a small box. Four cores are plenty for office work, browsing and video, though heavy rendering work will favour more.

Memory and storage

The memory is 16GB of dual-channel DDR4 SODIMM that can be expanded to 64GB. The 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe SSD uses PCIe 3.0 and can be expanded to 2TB. GMKtec adds that an M.2 2242 SATA drive can be added, up to 2TB. SODIMM memory is the compact laptop format, so check which modules fit when upgrading.

Graphics and displays

Graphics come from Intel Iris Xe (G7, 96 execution units). GMKtec says it can drive three displays at 4K and 60Hz at once, through two HDMI ports and one USB Type-C output. This is helpful for a desk with several monitors, though Iris Xe graphics are for general use rather than demanding games.

Networking

The M2 has a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port (RJ45), dual-band WiFi 6 (2.4 and 5 GHz) and Bluetooth 5.2. A 2.5G port gives faster transfers on a compatible network, such as to a NAS. It also lists DisplayPort and USB 3.2 connections.

Support

GMKtec lists a one-year limited warranty and customer service for pre-sale and after-sale questions. The title mentions Windows 11 Pro, so check the operating system and licence when you receive it.

What to check before you buy

  • Confirm the memory, storage and operating system match the specification you want.
  • Check your monitors' inputs: two HDMI and one USB-C output need suitable cables.
  • If you want 2.5G speeds, your router or switch needs a 2.5G port too.
  • Check upgrade compatibility before buying SODIMM memory or an M.2 drive.
  • Consider whether integrated graphics meet your needs for games or video editing.
  • A mini PC has fewer ports than a tower; list what you need to plug in.
  • The listing does not give dimensions, so confirm the size will fit your desk.
