The GMKtec K5 is a small desktop computer, about 4.8 x 4.4 x 1.7 inches and 0.9 lb, built around an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor. It comes with Windows 11 Pro, 32GB of DDR5 memory and a 1TB SSD. It suits a desk where space is tight, a home office, a media setup or a small server-style role.

The processor and graphics

The Ryzen 7 7735HS has 8 cores and 16 threads, a 3.2 GHz base clock and boosts up to 4.75 GHz, according to GMKtec. It uses the Zen 3+ architecture. More cores and threads generally help with multitasking, compiling code and video work. GMKtec claims around 30% better performance than the Ryzen 7 5800H, 5700U and 5560U.

Graphics come from an integrated AMD Radeon 680M with 12 cores at 2200 MHz. Integrated graphics of this class can handle 4K video, everyday creative software and many games at modest settings, but they are not a replacement for a dedicated graphics card.

Memory and storage

The K5 has 32GB of dual-channel DDR5 (2 x 16GB), and GMKtec says it can be expanded to 64GB. Storage is a 1TB NVMe SSD, and two M.2 2280 slots (PCIe 3.0/4.0) allow expansion up to 8TB. Upgrades are not included. Dual-channel memory typically improves integrated graphics performance because the GPU shares system memory.

USB4 and display outputs

The USB4 port runs at up to 40 Gbps and supports 8K at 60Hz output, per the listing. GMKtec also says the port can power a 15W portable touch display and can connect an external graphics card through a suitable enclosure. The K5 can drive three displays at once. Its other video ports are HDMI 2.0 (4K at 60Hz) and DisplayPort (4K at 144Hz).

Networking and ports

There are two 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports, which suit a router or firewall role, or connecting two networks. Wireless is Wi-Fi 6E (tri-band 802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.2. Other ports:

  • 3 x USB 3.2 (10 Gbps)
  • 1 x USB 2.0
  • 1 x USB4 (40 Gbps)
  • 1 x HDMI 2.0, 1 x DisplayPort
  • Audio jack for headphones and microphone, and a DC power port

Warranty

GMKtec lists a one-year limited warranty from the purchase date covering design and workmanship defects.

What to check before you buy

  • Whether integrated Radeon 680M graphics are enough for your games or software.
  • Your monitors' inputs, so you can match them to the HDMI, DisplayPort and USB4 outputs.
  • Whether you will want to add RAM or SSDs later. Opening the case may need care, and the listing says upgrades are not included.
  • Your desk's cable layout for the DC power adapter and extra Ethernet.
  • Keyboard, mouse and monitor: none are listed with the unit.
  • Noise and temperature in a small enclosure, as compact PCs rely on small fans.
