The GL.iNet Flint 3 (GL-BE9300) is a tri-band WiFi 7 router with five 2.5G Ethernet ports. It is built for homes and small offices that want fast wireless, built-in VPN support and more control than a basic ISP router offers. Here is what the main specs mean in practice.
What WiFi 7 and "BE9300" mean
The BE9300 name is a combined figure across all three bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz); no single device gets that number. GL.iNet quotes WiFi 7 speeds of up to 9Gbps. WiFi 7 adds the 6GHz band's wide channels and a denser signal modulation, called 4K QAM, which packs more data into each transmission. A device must also support WiFi 7 to use these features, though older devices still connect.
Multi-Link Operation and latency
The listing highlights Multi-Link Operation (MLO), enhanced OFDMA and preamble puncturing. MLO lets a compatible device use more than one band at a time, which generally lowers latency and makes connections more stable. OFDMA splits a channel among several devices, which helps in busy households. Preamble puncturing lets the router avoid a stretch of interference instead of giving up the whole channel.
VPN and privacy features
GL.iNet says WireGuard and OpenVPN speeds both reach up to 680Mbps, and notes that real results depend on your internet provider, network, VPN server location and VPN service. Running a VPN on the router covers every device on the network. The router also supports AdGuard Home, a DNS-based tool that blocks selected ads and trackers across the network through a web interface.
Devices, coverage and tinkering
The brand says the router handles over a hundred devices and points to its storage, listed as 1GB DDR4 memory and 8GB eMMC, for people who want to install extra plugins. Coverage is described as up to 2,000 square feet (about 185 square metres); walls, floors and layout typically cut that range.
Parental controls and setup
GL.iNet lists parental controls with integrated support for a child-monitoring service, covering website filtering, safe search and usage limits. Setup is done by connecting a computer by Ethernet to the web admin panel, and the brand recommends updating the firmware first.
Who it suits
It suits people with fast fibre or cable connections, households with many devices, and anyone who wants router-level VPN and ad filtering. It weighs about 1.9 lb (roughly 0.9 kg).
What to check before you buy
- Your internet plan: a 2.5G port only helps if your modem and plan can use it.
- Your devices: WiFi 7 benefits need WiFi 7 clients, and the 6GHz band needs support too.
- Modem connection: this is a router; check what your modem or fibre terminal requires.
- VPN service: confirm your provider supports WireGuard or OpenVPN.
- Coverage: in a large or multi-storey home, one router may not reach everywhere.
- Firmware: plan to update at first setup, as the brand advises.
