The GIGABYTE GP-UD1300GM PG5 is a 1300W ATX power supply for desktop PCs. It is Intel ATX 3.0 certified, supports PCIe 5.0 graphics cards through a 12+4 pin connector, and is fully modular. Here is what those specifications mean.

1300W and the single +12V rail

Wattage describes how much total power the unit can supply. Many modern components, especially processors and graphics cards, take most of their power from the +12V line. GIGABYTE lists a single +12V rail, meaning all the 12V power comes from one pool rather than being split into separate limited rails. This is the simpler design for high-power systems.

A 1300W unit is typically chosen for systems with a powerful graphics card, or several, plus a high-end processor. Add up your components' recommended power, then check the result against the 1300W figure.

ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0

ATX 3.0 is Intel's updated power supply standard. It is designed to handle the short spikes in power draw that modern graphics cards can create. The "PCIe 5.0 ready" label refers to the 12+4 pin connector (12VHPWR), which some newer graphics cards use. If your card has this connector, you can connect it straight to the supply without an adapter. Older cards use 6+2 pin connectors, so check which cables are included.

80 Plus Gold

80 Plus is an efficiency certification. Gold means the unit typically converts at least about 87 to 90 percent of the power it draws from the wall into usable power, at typical loads. Higher efficiency means less wasted heat.

Fully modular cables

Fully modular means every cable detaches, even the main motherboard cable. You connect only what your build needs, which cuts clutter and improves airflow in the case.

Components and cooling

GIGABYTE lists Japanese capacitors and a 140mm smart hydraulic bearing fan. Capacitors smooth the power output, and the brand says the materials contribute to stable power. A larger fan can typically run more slowly, and so more quietly, for the same airflow.

Protections

The listing names OVP, OPP, SCP, UVP, OCP and OTP: over-voltage, over-power, short-circuit, under-voltage, over-current and over-temperature protection. These are standard safeguards that shut the unit down if a fault occurs. As with any power supply, follow the manual for installation.

Size

It follows the ATX form factor and measures about 6.3 x 5.9 x 3.4 inches. Its weight is listed as 9.3 lb (about 4.2 kg).

Who it suits

It suits high-end desktop builds with powerful graphics cards, particularly those with a 12+4 pin connector.

What to check before you buy

  • Real power needs: compare your components' draw against 1300W.
  • Connectors: confirm the cable set matches your graphics card and drives.
  • Case fit: check that the case supports ATX supplies of this length.
  • Cable compatibility: modular cables from one brand or model should not be mixed with another.
  • Mains supply: check your outlet suits a high-wattage load.

The short version

  • A 1300W fully modular ATX power supply with a single +12V rail.
  • Intel ATX 3.0 certified, with a 12+4 pin PCIe 5.0 connector.
  • 80 Plus Gold certified, Japanese capacitors and a 140mm fan.
  • OVP, OPP, SCP, UVP, OCP and OTP protections.
  • Suited to high-power desktop systems.
