The eufy Security Video Doorbell S220 (model T8210) is a battery-powered doorbell camera that records to a base station inside your home instead of depending on a cloud plan. It is designed for front doors where running new wiring would be difficult, and it can also be wired if you prefer.

2K video and the 4:3 view

The camera records at 2K resolution, and eufy says wide dynamic range (WDR) processing helps with scenes that mix bright sky and dark porch. Resolution matters most when you need to read a parcel label or identify a face at a distance. The 4:3 aspect ratio is taller than the 16:9 of most cameras, which the brand says gives a head-to-toe view of a visitor and a package on the doorstep.

Local storage and encryption

Recordings are stored on the HomeBase, a small hub that sits inside your home, rather than in the doorbell itself. eufy says this means footage stays safe even if someone removes the doorbell. It describes AES-256 encryption for data in transit and storage. Local storage means no subscription is needed to keep recordings, though you should check which features, if any, depend on a cloud service. The HomeBase also needs mains power and a network connection.

Battery or wired power

eufy rates the battery at up to 180 days on a single charge. Real battery life depends on how often the doorbell is triggered, the temperature and the settings, and busy doorways will drain it faster. If you would rather not recharge, it can be wired to an existing doorbell supply of 8 to 24V and more than 10VA.

Alerts and detection

The doorbell offers human detection, real-time alerts and customizable zones. Zones let you ignore the street and watch only the porch, which reduces false alerts. The listing's wording is "motion only alert", so check what the doorbell can and can't distinguish.

Weather and installation

The doorbell is rated IP65 and eufy says it runs in temperatures from -4°F to 122°F (-20°C to 50°C). It measures about 5.5 x 2.1 x 1.1 inches (14 x 5.3 x 2.8 cm) and weighs 0.5 lb (about 230 g). Installation is described as fixing the mount and snapping the doorbell on, with no wiring needed in battery mode. The brand also says an Echo Dot can act as a chime.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners and renters who want a video doorbell without wiring and who prefer local storage to a cloud plan.

What to check before you buy

  • Door frame and mounting: confirm that the doorbell fits your frame, and see whether a wedge or other accessory is needed.
  • Wi-Fi and HomeBase: check where the HomeBase will sit and that it reaches your network.
  • Power choice: decide between recharging the battery and wiring it, and check your doorbell transformer's output.
  • Smart-home use: check compatibility with the assistants you already use.
  • Privacy and rules: check local rules on recording, including neighbours' property.
