The Corsair RM850e (2025) is a fully modular ATX power supply for desktop PCs, built to the ATX 3.1 standard with a native 12V-2x6 cable for modern graphics cards. It's part of Corsair's RMe series, which the brand describes as quiet, reliable power with Cybenetics Gold efficiency. Here is what those terms mean when you build or upgrade a PC.
What fully modular means
A power supply has to connect to the motherboard, processor, graphics card and drives. On a fully modular unit, every cable detaches from the case of the supply, so you only attach the ones your build needs. That means less clutter, easier airflow and tidier routing. Corsair's box contents include a 24-pin ATX cable, two 8-pin (4+4) EPS cables for the CPU, one 8-pin PCIe (6+2) cable, a 600W 12V-2x6 cable, a 12V-2x6 to dual 8-pin PCIe cable, six SATA connectors and two PATA connectors.
ATX 3.1, PCIe 5.1 and the 12V-2x6 connector
ATX 3.1 is Intel's power supply standard, and PCIe 5.1 is the matching platform specification. Corsair says the unit complies with both and can withstand transient power excursions from the graphics card of up to two times its rated output. Modern GPUs can briefly spike well above their average draw, so tolerance for these spikes matters. The 12V-2x6 connector is the single 12+4-pin plug used by many recent graphics cards. This supply includes a native cable, so no adapter is needed for such cards. For older cards, the dual 8-pin adapter cable and the 8-pin PCIe cable cover traditional connections.
Efficiency and capacitors
The Cybenetics Gold level is a measure of how efficiently the supply converts wall power into the DC power a PC uses. Higher efficiency typically means less wasted energy as heat. Corsair also lists 105°C-rated capacitors, which it says deliver steady, dependable electrical performance, and a seven-year warranty.
Noise and size
A 120mm fan with a custom fan curve is meant to keep noise down even at full load. In practice, many supplies run the fan slowly or not at all at low load, though Corsair doesn't state that here. The casing is 140mm long, which Corsair says suits nearly any modern case. The listed dimensions are 5.9 x 5.5 x 3.3 inches and the weight is 3.4 lb.
Modern Standby
Corsair says the supply is compatible with Modern Standby, with fast wake-from-sleep times and better efficiency at low load.
Who it suits
It suits builders putting together or upgrading a desktop that uses a recent graphics card with a 12V-2x6 connection, and anyone who wants tidy cabling in a smaller or glass-sided case. The model name points to 850W of capacity, so your total component draw needs to fit within it.
What to check before you buy
- Total power: add up the draw of your CPU, graphics card and other parts, and leave headroom.
- GPU connector: check whether your card uses 12V-2x6 or 8-pin PCIe plugs, and how many it needs.
- Case fit: confirm that your case takes a standard ATX supply of this length, with room for cables behind the motherboard tray.
- Cable count: make sure there are enough SATA and other connectors for your drives.
- Region: the model number CP-9020296-NA is the North American version, so check that it suits your mains supply.
The short version
- A fully modular ATX 3.1 supply, PCIe 5.1 compliant, with a native 600W 12V-2x6 cable.
- Cybenetics Gold efficiency and 105°C-rated capacitors.
- 120mm low-noise fan and a 140mm-long casing.
- Modern Standby compatible, with a seven-year warranty, according to Corsair.
