The Cooler Master MWE Gold 850 V2 is an 850W ATX power supply with detachable cables and 80 PLUS Gold efficiency. Cooler Master positions the MWE Gold line as its entry-level Gold series, meant to make the move up from White or Bronze rated units easier. The V2 generation adds several improvements over the first version.

What 850W and 80 PLUS Gold mean

The 850W figure is the maximum continuous power the unit can deliver to your components. It suits systems with a strong processor and a high-end graphics card. The listing's title says the unit is designed to be ready for cards such as the Nvidia RTX 5080 and AMD RX 9070 XT. As always, check the graphics card maker's power recommendation and connector type.

80 PLUS Gold is an efficiency certification. A Gold unit converts mains power to DC with less loss than Bronze at typical loads, which means less wasted heat. A cooler power supply can run its fan more slowly.

Fully modular cables

All cables detach from the unit. Cooler Master describes them as flat black cables that reduce clutter, increase airflow and improve efficiency and thermal performance. Flat cables are also usually easier to route behind a motherboard tray. You connect only the leads you need, which helps in cases with limited space.

Two EPS connectors

The unit includes two EPS connectors, which Cooler Master says gives compatibility with current-generation motherboards. EPS connectors power the CPU, and some high-end boards use two. If you plan an enthusiast processor build, this matters.

Fan and cooling

A 120mm hydro dynamic bearing (HDB) fan is fitted. According to the brand, the bearing reduces friction, so the fan can run smoothly at low RPM with lower noise. The unit is also described as semi-fanless, which usually means the fan stays off at low loads and only starts when the unit gets warmer.

Higher operating temperature

Cooler Master says the new generation allows a higher operating temperature than its predecessor, up to 50 degrees Celsius. That gives more margin in a warm room or a case with limited airflow. Allow clearance around the unit all the same.

Size and warranty

The unit measures 5.5 x 5.9 x 3.4 inches and weighs about 6.1 lb (2.8 kg). The title mentions a five-year warranty.

Who it suits

It suits desktop builders who want a modular power supply in the higher-wattage range with Gold efficiency, either for a new build or to replace an older Bronze or White unit.

What to check before you buy

  • Power need: add up your parts' draw and keep some headroom.
  • Graphics connectors: confirm the cables match your card's power inputs.
  • Case fit: check your case supports a standard ATX power supply of this depth.
  • Cable length: check that the cables reach your components.
  • Cable compatibility: modular cables are specific to a power supply line, so don't reuse cables from another unit.

The short version

  • An 850W fully modular ATX power supply rated 80 PLUS Gold.
  • Two EPS connectors for current motherboards.
  • 120mm HDB fan with semi-fanless operation.
  • Rated to run up to 50°C and described with a five-year warranty.
