The Blackview W50 Pro is a rugged-style smartwatch built for outdoor use. Its main features are a large battery, a built-in LED flashlight, a compass, Bluetooth calling and over 100 sports modes. It comes with two straps and works with both Android and iPhone.

Battery life

Blackview fits a 960mAh battery, which is large for a watch. The brand rates it at more than 100 days of standby and more than 30 days of daily use. Actual runtime depends heavily on how many features you leave on, such as continuous heart rate monitoring, notifications and screen-on time, so treat the figures as the brand's claims rather than a promise.

Flashlight and compass

A single button turns on a bright LED flashlight, which Blackview positions for night walks, camping and emergency lighting. The compass gives you a direction without needing a phone signal. Watch compasses typically need calibration, and nearby metal or magnets can affect them, so a dedicated navigation tool is wise for serious trips.

Calls, notifications and apps

The watch pairs with your phone over Bluetooth through the Da Fit app. Once connected you can answer and make calls from the wrist, save contacts, and receive call and message notifications from apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram. Blackview lists compatibility with phones running Android 6.0 and iOS 9.0 or newer. Call audio goes through the phone's connection, so the phone needs to be nearby.

Display and watch faces

The 1.45-inch TFT display uses tempered glass and PET film, according to Blackview. You can set your own photo as a background or download faces from an online library in the app.

Sports and health tracking

The watch offers over 100 sports modes, including running, cycling, basketball, rugby and skiing, and tracks steps, distance, time and calories. By connecting to the phone's GPS through Da Fit, it can record training routes. It also reports heart rate, blood oxygen and stress readings and sleep stages. Blackview states clearly that this is not a medical device and that data is for reference only and shouldn't be used to diagnose or monitor any medical condition.

Build and water resistance

The case is scratch-resistant plastic with a zinc alloy housing, built to cope with dust, sand and knocks. The watch is IP68 certified, which generally covers splashes and brief immersion. Blackview notes it isn't suitable for saunas, hot tubs, swimming or diving.

Other tools

Music control, camera control, weather, alarm, stopwatch and timer are included.

Who it suits

It suits hikers, campers and people with active jobs who want a durable watch with long battery life and basic phone integration, rather than a full-featured, app-heavy smartwatch.

What to check before you buy

  • Phone support: confirm your phone's OS meets Android 6.0 or iOS 9.0 or later.
  • App: setup uses Da Fit; check you're happy with its features and permissions.
  • Wrist size: the case is chunky; check the strap range suits you.
  • Water use: don't plan on swimming or diving.
  • Navigation: a watch compass is a convenience, not a replacement for a map.
