The ASUS TUF Gaming 1000W Gold White Edition (model TUF-GAMING-1000G-WHITE) is a fully modular desktop power supply with a white finish. It converts household mains power into the lower voltages a PC needs, and a 1000W unit like this is aimed at builds with a powerful graphics card and plenty of headroom.
What 1000W and 80 Plus Gold mean
The wattage is the maximum continuous power the unit can deliver to the components. A PC rarely draws that much all the time, and a power supply with spare capacity typically runs cooler and quieter. The 80 Plus Gold certification is an efficiency level: it means the unit meets a set efficiency level at standard loads, so less power is wasted as heat. ASUS says the certification comes from Japanese capacitors and other premium components.
ATX 3.0 and the 16-pin cable
The unit is compliant with ATX 3.0 guidelines, the standard that added support for the high, brief power spikes of recent graphics cards. ASUS bundles a 16-pin PCIe cable that can carry up to 600W to PCIe Gen 5.0 graphics cards. If your graphics card uses the newer 16-pin connector, this removes the need for an adapter. Cards with traditional 8-pin connectors need a compatible cable, so check the cable list.
Fully modular cables
Fully modular means every cable detaches from the unit, so you plug in only what the build needs. ASUS describes the cables as etched, keeping the inside of the case tidy. Fewer cables generally means easier routing and better airflow.
Fan and bearings
The Axial-tech fan has a smaller hub that allows longer blades, plus a barrier ring that ASUS says increases downward air pressure. Dual ball bearings are used, which ASUS says can last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs.
Build quality and protection
ASUS says the capacitors and chokes pass demanding tests for its military-grade certification. A protective coating on the circuit board is meant to guard against moisture, dust and extreme temperatures. The unit comes with a 10-year warranty, so check the terms with ASUS.
Size and weight
It measures about 5.9 x 5.9 x 3.4 inches and weighs 5.5 lb (about 2.5 kg).
Who it suits
It suits builders planning a high-end gaming or workstation PC with a power-hungry graphics card, or those who want room to upgrade later. It's also relevant for anyone who prefers a white-themed build.
What to check before you buy
- Case compatibility: confirm your case takes a standard ATX power supply of this size.
- Power needs: add up your parts' requirements and check what the graphics card maker recommends.
- Connectors: check the number and type of cables for your graphics card, drives and motherboard.
- Cables: use the cables supplied with the unit, because modular cables aren't interchangeable between brands.
- Installation: switch off and unplug before working inside the PC, follow the manual, and follow local electrical codes.
- Colour: check that the white finish suits your build.
