The ASUS RT-AX3000 is a dual-band WiFi 6 router for home networks. It combines the faster, more efficient WiFi 6 standard with four Gigabit LAN ports, a USB 3.0 port, parental controls and support for ASUS's AiMesh system.
What AX3000 and WiFi 6 mean
WiFi 6 is the common name for 802.11ax. ASUS says it offers up to 2.7x faster speed than the previous WiFi generation, and uses OFDMA and MU-MIMO to serve several devices at once. OFDMA divides a channel so that many small transmissions share it, and MU-MIMO lets the router talk to multiple devices simultaneously. Both help most when lots of phones, laptops and smart-home devices are online together.
The listing gives a total network speed of 3000 Mbps, which comes from combining the two bands: 575 Mbps on 2.4GHz and 2402 Mbps on 5GHz. These are theoretical maximums. A single device typically gets less than either figure.
160MHz and 1024-QAM
The router supports 160MHz channel width and 1024-QAM modulation. Wider channels and denser modulation both increase how much data is carried, but they need compatible devices and a clean signal, so they work best at closer range.
Coverage
ASUS lists a maximum range of 3000 sq ft. Coverage in practice depends on walls, floors, building materials and interference, as the listing's own disclaimer notes. For larger homes, AiMesh helps.
AiMesh
AiMesh lets you combine this router with other AiMesh-compatible ASUS routers into one mesh system with seamless whole-home coverage, according to ASUS. You can reuse an older compatible router as a node.
Ports
The router has one WAN port for your modem, four 1G LAN ports for wired devices, and one USB 3.0 port. A USB port on a router is typically used to share storage or a printer across the network.
AiProtection Pro and parental controls
ASUS includes AiProtection Pro, powered by Trend Micro, to protect devices on the network, and advanced parental controls to manage family internet use. Adaptive QoS prioritizes traffic, such as video calls or games, when the connection is busy.
Power and compatibility
The listing gives an AC input range of 110V-240V (50-60Hz) and mentions Windows and Apple iOS as supported operating systems. It measures about 8.8 x 6.1 x 6.3 inches (22 x 15 x 16 cm) and weighs 1.3 lb (about 0.6 kg). The listing shows two DC output options (19V and 12V); which adapter ships depends on region, so check the box contents.
Who it suits
It suits small to medium homes and apartments with a mix of devices, families who want parental controls, and anyone who wants a router that can grow into a mesh system later.
What to check before you buy
- Internet plan: the router can't exceed the speed your provider supplies.
- Device support: older devices connect fine, but only WiFi 6 devices get WiFi 6 speeds.
- Modem: confirm whether your provider requires a separate modem.
- Home layout: big or multi-storey homes may need extra AiMesh nodes.
- Ports: make sure four Gigabit LAN ports are enough for your wired devices.
- Updates: check the manual for firmware updates and security settings.
