The ASUS ROG Strix 1000W Platinum is a fully modular power supply for high-end gaming PCs. It is rated for 1000 watts, meets the ATX 3.1 standard and has a native 12V-2x6 connector for current graphics cards. ASUS positions it for powerful systems that need stable power delivered to the graphics card.

ATX 3.1 and the 12V-2x6 connector

ATX 3.1 is an update to the power supply standard that tightens voltage and current regulation. ASUS says the unit complies, and describes it as PCIe 5.0 ready with a native 12V-2x6 connector. That connector is the single high-power cable used by recent high-end graphics cards, so cards that use it do not need an adapter. Check which connector your graphics card uses before buying.

Platinum efficiency

The 80 PLUS Platinum certification means the supply converts wall power to PC power with high efficiency at typical loads, so less energy is lost as heat. ASUS also lists a Cybenetics Lambda A+ grade, which comes from a separate programme that measures noise. The brand says it uses low-ESR capacitors and premium components.

GaN MOSFETs

Gallium nitride (GaN) MOSFETs are a newer type of switching component. ASUS says they improve power efficiency by up to 30% and allow a more organized internal layout for cooler operation. These are the brand's figures, measured against its own comparison point.

GPU-First voltage sensing

ASUS says its "GPU-First" sensing, with a patented intelligent voltage stabilizer, improves voltage delivery to the graphics card by up to 45%. The idea is that graphics cards cause the largest power swings in a gaming PC, so keeping their voltage steady supports smoother performance.

Cooling and noise

Large ROG heatsinks cover critical components, and ASUS says they give lower temperatures and noise than reference designs. The fan uses dual ball bearings, which ASUS says can last up to twice as long as sleeve bearings. With 0dB technology, the fan stays off under light loads so light gaming can be quiet.

Fully modular cabling

Fully modular means every cable detaches from the supply, so you only connect the ones the build needs. This usually makes cable routing tidier and improves airflow in the case. The listing does not give cable counts, so check them against your components.

Size and warranty

It measures about 6.3 x 5.9 x 3.4 inches (16 x 15 x 8.6 cm) and weighs 6.9 lb (about 3.1 kg). A 10-year warranty is included.

What to check before you buy

  • That 1000W suits your processor and graphics card, with some headroom.
  • Which power connector your graphics card needs.
  • That your case takes a standard ATX supply of this depth.
  • That the cable counts and lengths suit your case layout.
  • Warranty terms in your region.

The short version

  • 1000W fully modular ATX 3.1 supply with 80 PLUS Platinum certification.
  • Native 12V-2x6 connector, PCIe 5.0 ready.
  • GaN MOSFETs and GPU-First voltage sensing.
  • Dual ball-bearing fan with 0dB mode and a 10-year warranty.
