The ASUS NUC 15 Pro Tall is a barebones mini PC: a small, ready-built computer body with the processor, cooling and ports installed, but without memory, storage or an operating system. It is aimed at people who want a compact desktop for the office, the living room or a shelf behind a monitor, and who are happy to choose their own RAM and drive.
What "barebones" means in practice
A barebones kit is not a finished computer. Out of the box you will typically need to add DDR5 memory, at least one storage drive and a copy of an operating system before it can do anything. The upside is that you pick the capacity and speed you want. ASUS lists support for up to 96GB of dual-channel DDR5 and a dual-storage design, which means two drives can be installed.
ASUS also describes a tool-less chassis, so the case opens without a screwdriver. That makes fitting memory and drives quicker, and later upgrades easier.
The Intel Core Ultra 5 225H processor
The processor is an Intel Series 2 Core Ultra 5 225H with integrated Intel Arc 130T graphics. "Integrated" means the graphics sit on the same chip as the processor, so there is no separate graphics card. That is typically enough for office work, browsing, video playback and light creative tasks, but not for demanding modern games.
The listing also mentions NPU support for AI workloads. An NPU is a neural processing unit, a part of the chip designed to run certain AI tasks efficiently, such as background blur or noise removal in video calls, without loading the main cores. How much you benefit depends on whether your software supports it.
Connectivity and displays
ASUS says the NUC 15 Pro has Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Wi-Fi 7 needs a compatible router to reach its top speeds; on an older router it still works at that router's level. ASUS also mentions Wi-Fi Proximity Sensing, a feature that reacts to the user's presence.
For screens, the brand says you can connect up to four 4K displays through HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4. Thunderbolt 4 is a USB-C connection that can carry video, data and power over one cable, so it suits docks and fast external drives. It also lists headless emulation, which lets the system behave as if a display is attached when none is, helpful for remote or server-style use, and a sync power-off feature that turns the screen off with the PC.
Size, mounting and durability
The unit measures about 4.6 x 4.4 x 2.1 inches (roughly 11.7 x 11.2 x 5.3 cm) and weighs around 0.8 lb (about 360 g). A VESA mount is included, so it can be fixed to the back of a compatible monitor. ASUS says the design has MIL-STD-810H certification and 24/7 reliability testing, and that the cooling system is built to hold performance steady.
Who it suits
It suits home offices, reception desks, shared workspaces, media setups and anyone who wants a small machine with modern ports. It is less suited to people who want a ready-to-use computer straight out of the box, or who need a powerful dedicated graphics card.
What to check before you buy
- Parts you must add: DDR5 memory, storage and an operating system are not included, so check the manual for supported memory type, form factor and drive format.
- Displays and cables: confirm that your monitors use HDMI or USB-C and that you have the cables.
- Router: Wi-Fi 7 speeds need a Wi-Fi 7 router; otherwise a wired connection works too.
- Mounting: if you plan to use the VESA mount, check your monitor's mounting pattern.
- Power and noise: check the power adapter and how the fan sounds in your room.
