The ASUS NUC 15 Pro+ (model RNUC15CRSU50000U) is a barebones mini PC in a small silver aluminium chassis of 0.7 litres. "Barebones" is the key word: the kit includes the processor and the main board, but you add your own memory, storage and operating system. It suits people who want a compact desktop, a home office machine or a media or workstation box that can hang behind a monitor.
What barebones means
A barebones mini PC arrives without RAM, a drive or Windows installed. You choose the DDR5 memory, which ASUS says can reach up to 96GB, and the storage, and then install the operating system of your choice. ASUS describes the system as having dual storage, meaning more than one drive can be fitted. The chassis uses a toolless design for upgrades, so opening it and fitting parts needs no screwdriver. This lets you tailor the machine, but it also means the total build depends on the parts you add.
Processor and AI features
The system uses an Intel Core Ultra 5 225H, from Intel's Series 2 Core Ultra line, with integrated Intel Arc 130T graphics. ASUS highlights NPU support for AI workloads. An NPU (neural processing unit) is a block designed to run certain AI tasks, such as background effects or local AI tools, at low power. The integrated graphics handle everyday video, office tasks and light creative work, but they are not meant to replace a dedicated graphics card.
Connectivity
ASUS lists Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, plus Wi-Fi Proximity Sensing, and says the connection delivers up to 2.4x faster transfer rates. Wi-Fi 7 is the newest standard and needs a compatible router to show its benefit. The machine has Thunderbolt 4 and dual HDMI 2.1 ports.
Displays
According to ASUS, the NUC supports up to four 4K displays through the dual HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 ports. A "sync power-off" feature automatically turns off the screens, which ASUS says helps energy efficiency. That level of display support suits multi-monitor desks for trading, coding or office work.
Cooling and noise
ASUS says its thermal design reduces noise, with a "1.2X refined, quieter computing experience." The figure is the brand's own, and noise in practice depends on workload and the parts you add. A VESA mount is included, so the unit can attach to the back of a compatible monitor.
Size
The unit measures about 5.7 x 4.4 x 1.7 inches (roughly 14.5 x 11.2 x 4.3 cm) and weighs 1.5 lb (about 0.7 kg).
Who it suits
It suits people comfortable choosing and installing memory and storage, desk setups with limited space, and anyone wanting a multi-monitor office PC. It is less suited to anyone who wants a ready-to-run computer out of the box, or to heavy gaming.
What to check before you buy
- Memory and storage: confirm the exact type, size and speed supported, using the spec sheet.
- Operating system: you need your own licence or installation media.
- Power adapter and cables: check what is included in the box, and that you have HDMI or Thunderbolt cables for your displays.
- Monitor compatibility: check your displays' connectors and VESA pattern if you plan to mount the unit.
- Router: you need a Wi-Fi 7 router to use Wi-Fi 7 speeds.
- Upkeep: follow the manual for opening the chassis and installing parts.
