The Anker MagGo A1664 is a slim 10,000mAh power bank that snaps onto the back of a compatible iPhone with magnets and charges it wirelessly. It also has a USB-C port for cable charging. It's built for people who want extra battery without a cable dangling from their phone.

What Qi2 and 15W magnetic charging mean

Qi2 is a wireless charging standard that adds a magnetic ring, so the charger lines up with the phone's coil and holds on. Anker says the MagGo is Qi2 certified, with up to 15W through its wireless pad. Aligned charging typically wastes less energy as heat than loosely placed pads, and the magnets keep the pack attached while you use the phone.

Anker lists it as optimised for the iPhone 12, 13, 14 and 15 series and, in the title, 16 and 17 series. It states that Android phones can be charged but won't get the magnetic hold or the 15W speed.

The 10,000mAh capacity

A 10,000mAh battery stores charge at the battery's own voltage, so you won't get that full number into your phone. Anker says it can provide up to 1.8 charges for an iPhone 15 Pro. Wireless charging is generally less efficient than a cable, so expect fewer charges that way.

USB-C port

The USB-C port delivers up to 30W. It can charge a phone faster than the wireless pad, and it suits tablets or other USB-C devices. The pack ships with a 23.62 inch (60 cm) USB-C to USB-C cable.

Slim, cool design

The pack measures about 4.1 x 2.8 x 0.6 inches (around 10.4 x 7.1 x 1.5 cm) and weighs about 0.4 lb (around 180 g). Anker describes a matte finish, a metal frame and aerogel thermal insulation to keep it cooler in use. Any battery pack will warm up while charging, so follow the manual and don't cover it.

What's in the box

The box holds the power bank, the USB-C cable, a welcome guide, and a 24-month warranty with customer support.

Who it suits

It suits iPhone owners who want a slim backup that lives on the phone through a commute or a day out, and travellers who prefer one pack for both wireless and wired top-ups. Android users will mainly be using the USB-C port.

What to check before you buy

  • Phone model: confirm your iPhone supports magnetic charging; the listing says not for Pixel.
  • Case: thick or non-magnetic cases may weaken the grip. A case designed for magnetic charging helps.
  • Charging speed: 15W wireless is the maximum, and your phone sets the actual rate.
  • Recharging the pack: check which charger you'll use to refill it.
  • Flights: airline rules on power banks vary, so check before you travel.
