The Anker B121B is a compact wall charger with three ports and a maximum output of 100W. It is built to charge a phone, tablet and laptop from a single outlet, and it adds a small display that shows what each port is doing. Here is what the specs mean and who it is aimed at.

What GaN and 100W mean in practice

GaN stands for gallium nitride, a semiconductor that wastes less energy as heat than the silicon used in older chargers. That is why a 100W charger can now be small enough for a coat pocket. Anker says the B121B delivers a steady 100W on any of its USB-C ports and holds peak performance up to twice as long as the average 100W charger.

A 100W ceiling is typically enough for many thin-and-light laptops, as well as tablets and phones. It matters to check what your own laptop needs, since some larger machines ask for more than 100W and will charge more slowly.

Three ports, shared power

The charger has three ports: USB-C and USB-A. As with most multi-port chargers, the 100W maximum is a total that is shared when several devices are connected, so each device may receive less than it would on its own. The display helps here, because it shows port activity as it happens.

The smart display and touch control

A small high-definition screen shows real-time details on charging status, temperature and port performance, and Anker describes it as giving instant visibility and control through touch. For anyone who has wondered whether a cable or device is actually charging at full speed, that is the main appeal.

Low-current mode for small devices

Earbuds, watches and similar accessories draw very little current, and some chargers stop supplying power to them. Anker says that when a USB-C2 or USB-A port stays at or below 5W for one minute, the charger switches to a 95W + 5W low-current mode so these devices keep charging.

Size and carrying

Anker lists the charger at 2.72 x 2.17 x 1.34 inches (about 6.9 x 5.5 x 3.4 cm) and roughly 0.5 lb (about 230 g). The plug folds away, which stops the prongs catching inside a bag. Anker also states that the frame is 330% smaller than a comparison charger, a claim that rests on its own choice of reference model.

What is in the box

The package includes the charger, a 4.9 ft (1.5 m) USB-C to USB-C cable, a welcome guide and an 18-month warranty, according to Anker. Because the cable is included, you can start charging right away, though you may want extra cables for more than one device.

Who it suits

It suits people who travel with a phone, tablet and laptop and want one charger rather than several. It also suits a desk or bedside spot where one outlet has to serve multiple devices.

What to check before you buy

  • Laptop power needs: confirm the wattage your laptop expects, and whether it charges over USB-C.
  • Cables: one cable is included. Check that any others you use are rated for the power you want.
  • Shared output: remember the 100W is split across ports when all are in use.
  • Plug type: check the plug shape suits your outlets, and use a travel adapter abroad.
  • Safe use: follow the manual and local electrical guidance.
