The WYBOT Grampus 800 is a robotic pool cleaner for in-ground and above-ground pools up to 50 feet. You place it in the water, press a button, and it moves around the pool scrubbing the floor and walls and collecting debris in its filter baskets. This page explains the main features and what to check against your own pool.

How it cleans

Robotic cleaners work independently of your pool's pump and filter. They have their own motors for driving and for pulling water through internal filters, so they remove debris that would otherwise wait for the main system. WYBOT says the Grampus 800 has three motors and a larger inlet, which it says lets it collect more dirt and debris, including leaf fragments and sand. It also lists a 71 GPM filtration rate (gallons per minute), a measure of how much water passes through its filters.

Wall climbing and coverage

The brand says the enhanced roller provides strong adhesion so the cleaner can climb walls, and that it scrubs all pool surfaces, including the waterline. Two sets of independent brushes handle the scrubbing. Wall climbing generally depends on the pool surface being smooth enough for grip, so it is worth checking the manual for the finishes it supports.

Timer settings

Cleaning cycles can be set to 1, 2 or 3 hours. WYBOT says intelligent navigation plans the route. A longer cycle is usually better for a larger or dirtier pool, while a shorter one suits regular maintenance.

Filter baskets and maintenance

There are two filter baskets of 3 litres each, with a 180-micron mesh. A micron is one-thousandth of a millimetre, so 180µm means particles larger than roughly 0.18 mm should be caught. Fine dust passes through and is left to your main filter. The baskets are removable and can be rinsed, and a larger volume means fewer stops to empty them.

Cable, motor and certification

The power cable is 50 feet (about 15 metres) long and is described as tangle-free. The motors are brushless, which in general run cooler and last longer than brushed ones. The brand lists an IPX8 class, which describes protection against continuous immersion in water. As with any pool electrical equipment, follow the manual for the power supply and handling, and keep the supply unit out of the water.

Size

The cleaner measures about 24.4 x 21.1 x 12.4 inches (62 x 54 x 31 cm). That is a sizeable unit, so think about how you will lift it out of the pool and where it will be kept.

Who it suits

It suits owners of in-ground or above-ground pools who want regular cleaning without pushing a manual vacuum. It is a good match for pools with leaves, sand and everyday dirt. Very large pools or pools with unusual shapes, steps or heavy algae may still need extra work.

What to check before you buy

  • Pool length: the 50 ft pool size limit and cable length should suit your pool and where the power supply sits.
  • Surface type: confirm the brushes and roller suit your liner, tile or concrete.
  • Power: you will need a suitable outdoor outlet; follow local electrical codes and the manual.
  • Debris: 180µm baskets catch most leaves and grit but not fine dust.
  • Handling: check you can lift and put away the unit comfortably.
  • Warranty terms: WYBOT lists a 2-year guarantee; read the terms for details.
