The WORX WG261E.9 is a cordless hedge trimmer with a 44 cm blade, built for shaping hedges and shrubs without an extension cord. It is part of the WORX PowerShare range, which means it runs on a 20-volt battery that also fits other tools from the brand. It is supplied as a bare tool, so the battery and charger are not included.

Blades and cutting

WORX describes a laser-ground diamond blade with dual cutting edges and 16 mm tooth spacing. Dual-action blades typically reduce vibration and give a cleaner cut than a single moving blade. The tooth spacing matters because it sets the thickest stem the trimmer can take in one pass. A 16 mm gap suits normal hedge growth and soft new branches, but thick woody stems are better handled with loppers or a pruning saw.

The 44 cm length covers a lot of hedge per stroke, and WORX says it suits small and large hedges alike. Longer blades also help on tall hedges, but they take more arm strength to control.

Weight and handling

The trimmer weighs 2.2 lb (about 1 kg) as listed, and measures roughly 33 inches (84 cm) in length. A battery adds weight, so expect it to feel heavier in use. WORX points to a hand guard that supports control in different cutting positions, and an additional handle for comfortable holding. Being cordless means you can move along a hedge without managing a cable, but runtime depends on the battery you choose.

PowerShare batteries

PowerShare is WORX's 20-volt battery platform. According to WORX, any battery from the system can be used across all 20-volt PowerShare devices, so a single battery and charger can serve a trimmer, a blower or other garden tools. Check which batteries and chargers are compatible and what capacity suits the job; larger capacity usually means longer cutting time but extra weight.

Safety features

The two-handed safety switch stops the blades if you lose contact, and it helps prevent accidental starting. A blade cover is included for storage and transport. As with any powered cutter, read the manual, wear eye protection and gloves, and keep hands clear of the blades.

Who it suits

It suits homeowners with small to medium hedges who prefer a cord-free tool, and gardeners who already own PowerShare batteries. People with large or very overgrown hedges may want a larger battery or a spare.

What to check before you buy

  • Battery and charger: neither is in the box, so confirm you already own compatible ones or plan to add them.
  • Hedge thickness: check that most of your stems are thinner than the 16 mm tooth spacing.
  • Height: consider whether a 44 cm blade held at arm's length reaches your tallest sections safely.
  • Weight: hold a similar tool with a battery attached if you have limited strength.
  • Upkeep: blades benefit from regular cleaning and light oiling; read the manual.
  • Storage: keep the blade cover on when not in use.
