The Worx WG163 GT3.0 is a cordless 20V string trimmer that converts into a wheeled edger. Two batteries and a charger are included, so you can start work out of the box. It's meant for tidying lawn borders, trimming around beds and cutting a clean line along paths and driveways.

One tool, two jobs

As a string trimmer, it cuts grass and weeds along fences and around obstacles. Worx says it converts to an edger in seconds. In edger mode, the rubberized wheels support and guide the tool, which Worx says gives straighter lines and cleaner cuts. Edging typically means cutting a neat vertical edge where lawn meets a path or bed.

Tilting head and spacer guard

The head tilts 90°, so you can work on sloped ground or reach awkward spots. An adjustable spacer guard keeps the line away from plants, garden features and ornaments. That helps if you trim near flower beds.

Command Feed line

Worx's Command Feed system feeds new line when you push a button, so you don't tap the head on the ground or stop to pull line by hand. The listing says "Free Spools for Life". Check the offer's current terms with Worx.

What the specs mean

  • 7600 rpm no-load speed: how fast the head spins without cutting.
  • 12 in. cutting diameter: the width of the cut circle, also the area cleared per pass.
  • 0.065 in. line, 10 ft of line length: a thin line suits light trimming rather than heavy brush.
  • 5.3 lb machine weight: Worx lists this figure, and the listing gives 6.0 lb as the item weight. Lightness reduces fatigue.

PowerShare batteries

The two 20V MaxLithium batteries can be used on other tools in the Worx PowerShare family, and Worx says the platform covers its 20V and 40V tools, outdoor power and lifestyle products. A shared battery system is helpful if you already own, or plan to buy, other tools on the platform. The box contains the trimmer and edger, two batteries, a charger, a trimmer spool, support wheels and a safety guard.

Size

Assembled length is about 36.3 inches (92 cm), with a width of 7.5 inches and height of 5.5 inches.

Who it suits

It suits owners of small to medium lawns who want a cordless, no-fuel tool that both trims and edges, particularly if they use or plan to use other PowerShare tools.

What to check before you buy

  • Lawn size: battery run time is limited, so check how long a charge lasts on your yard.
  • Growth: a 0.065 in. line suits grass and light weeds more than thick brush.
  • Platform: confirm the batteries and charger fit your other Worx tools.
  • Line replacement: check spool type and replacement availability.
  • Protective gear: use eye protection and follow the manual.
