The WORX WG162 is a cordless string trimmer that converts into a lawn edger. It runs on a 20V Power Share battery and has a 12-inch cutting diameter, so it can handle the edges of a lawn, borders and the small grassy spots a mower misses. The kit includes the battery and charger.
Trimmer and edger in one
WORX says the head and shaft pull apart and twist to switch between trimming and edging in seconds. As a trimmer, the head spins horizontally to cut grass at the edges. As an edger, the head turns vertically and cuts a clean line along a path or bed. The brand points out that this removes the need for a separate edger.
Motor and cutting line
The description gives a motor speed of 8,500 revolutions per minute. The spool is wound with WORX's DNA2 DoubleHelix line, which has an oval shape that WORX says reduces drag and resists snapping. An auto line feed button feeds out fresh line, so you can keep cutting without stopping to adjust the line by hand. The 12-inch cutting diameter is wide enough to cover ground quickly while still fitting between trees and bushes.
Pivoting head and telescopic shaft
The head tilts up to 90 degrees. That helps with reaching under bushes and trimming on a slope. The telescopic shaft extends for taller users and collapses for off-season storage. An adjustable handle lets you find a comfortable position and gain leverage in awkward spots.
Flower guard and support wheels
An adjustable flower guard acts as a spacer, so you can get close to an edge without cutting plants or lawn decorations. Support wheels are included for edging, where they help you keep a straight line along a path.
Weight and size
WORX lists the tool at 4.5 lb and says it weighs about 5.5 lb with the battery installed. The listed length is 54.4 inches, before collapsing the shaft. Light weight matters when you are trimming for a while, so check that it feels right at your height.
Battery and charger
The 20V battery is part of the Power Share range, which WORX says powers more than 75 tools at 20V, 40V and 80V. If you already own another Power Share tool, the battery may interchange. The brand also says a cordless tool is cleaner and quieter than petrol equivalents. Run time depends on the battery and the conditions, so check the manual.

- 20V string trimmer and edger
- 20V Max Lithium battery and charger

Who it suits
It suits small to medium gardens where a corded or petrol trimmer is more than you need, and owners who want trimming and edging from one machine.
What to check before you buy
- Yard size: a single small battery suits modest lawns. Larger properties may need a spare battery.
- Height and comfort: check the shaft length and handle position against your height.
- Line and parts: find out which replacement spools fit and how to reload line.
- Safety gear: wear eye protection and sturdy footwear, and follow the manual.
- Storage: the telescopic shaft helps, but you still need a dry place for the battery.
