The Worx WG154 is a cordless string trimmer that also works as a lawn edger. It runs on a 20V battery, so there is no cord to snag on shrubs and no fuel to mix. At 3.2 lb without the battery, it is aimed at lighter yard work that most people can handle.
Trimmer and edger in one
Turning the tool from trimming to edging takes a few seconds. Worx says you grasp the head, pull it away from the shaft and turn it 180 degrees. In trimmer mode the line spins horizontally to cut grass and weeds. In edger mode it spins vertically to cut a neat line along paths and beds.
Cutting width and line
The cutting diameter is 10 inches (the listing's title also mentions 12), which Worx says is wide enough for larger patches yet narrow enough for garden edges. The kit comes with a 10-foot spool of 0.065-inch DoubleHelix line. Worx describes the oval line as shaped to reduce drag and says it has tensile strength over 100 lb, so it resists snapping.
Auto-feed line
You press a button on the trimmer when you need more line, and the feed is automatic, according to Worx. That avoids the bump-to-feed routine of some trimmers, though you will still replace the spool when it runs out.
Flower guard
An adjustable spacer guard helps stop the line from catching plants, lawn decorations and other delicate spots. A safety guard is also supplied.
Battery and Power Share
The kit includes a 20V MaxLithium battery (1.5Ah, per the description) and a charger. Worx says the same battery powers more than 75 tools across its 20V, 40V and 80V ranges, such as chainsaws and mowers. The listing puts total weight with battery at 4.2 lb, and the size at 33.5 x 5.3 x 5.0 inches (about 85 x 13 x 13 cm).
Weight and handling
Worx gives the weight as 3.2 lb without the battery and 4.2 lb with it, and describes the design as lightweight and ergonomic. A light tool is generally easier on the shoulders and wrists during longer sessions, and it suits people who find heavier petrol trimmers awkward. Being cordless also means you can work around trees, bushes and fences without managing a cable.
What to check before you buy
- Your yard size. A 1.5Ah battery gives limited runtime, so large areas may need a spare battery.
- Thick weeds and woody growth, which a light 20V trimmer may struggle with.
- Whether you own other Power Share tools that could share the battery.
- The line size and spool type, so you can buy replacements.
- Eye protection and long trousers, plus the manual's safety steps.
The short version
- A cordless 20V string trimmer that converts to an edger by turning the head 180 degrees.
- 10-inch cutting diameter with auto-feed line.
- Adjustable flower guard for delicate plants.
- Includes battery, charger, spool and safety guard.
- The battery fits Worx's wider Power Share range.
