The VEVOR HR-703-2 is a manual, wall-mounted hose reel made of steel. It winds a garden hose up and off the ground, so the hose is stored neatly instead of lying in a tangle on the lawn. VEVOR says it suits yards, patios, garages and car-wash areas. The hose itself is sold separately.
Capacity
VEVOR lists the reel for 200 feet of 5/8-inch hose or 250 feet of 1/2-inch hose. A thinner hose packs more length into the same drum, and in general a wider hose carries more water but takes up more room. The reel comes with a 5.02 ft reinforced leader hose, the short piece that links the reel to the outdoor tap.
Steel construction
The frame is powder-coated Q235 steel with a triple-layer anti-corrosion finish. VEVOR says this resists UV, rust, salt spray and freeze-thaw cycles, and that the reel handles pressure up to 150 PSI, so it can be used with a pressure-washer hose. A powder coat is a baked-on finish that is generally tougher than ordinary paint, though scratches can still let rust in over time.
Brass fittings
The inlet and outlet are brass, with a 3-way connector with 3/4-11.5 external and 1/2-14.5 internal threads. VEVOR says it fits most standard hoses. Brass generally resists corrosion and wear better than plastic and is a common choice for hose connections. Hand-tighten fittings and use washers as the manual describes to reduce drips.
Mounting
A steel bracket, anti-loosening screws and concrete expansion anchors come in the box, for installation on brick or concrete. The reel mounts 18 inches (about 46 cm) above the ground. The unit is 22.8 x 15.4 x 17.7 inches and weighs 13.0 lb without any hose. A full hose is much heavier, so the wall surface matters. On other wall types you may need different fixings.
Winter use
VEVOR advises adding an insulation cover (sold separately) when temperatures fall below freezing, so ice doesn't form inside the hose. In cold climates, most people also drain the hose and bring in or protect their taps.
Who it suits
It suits owners of larger yards with a long hose, people who use a pressure washer, and anyone short on floor space who wants to replace a floor-standing cart.
What to check before you buy
- Wall type: the included anchors are for brick or concrete; check yours.
- Hose length and diameter: compare your hose with 200 ft of 5/8 inch or 250 ft of 1/2 inch.
- Hose weight: a full hose adds a lot of weight to the bracket.
- Position: pick a spot near the tap with room to pull the hose out.
- Thread sizes: check your tap and hose fittings against the listed threads.
- Cold weather: plan for draining or covering in winter.
