The VEVOR HCP750A combines a 16-inch sand filter tank and a 3/4 HP pump in one unit for above-ground swimming pools. Sand filtration is one of the most common ways to keep pool water clear: the pump draws water through a bed of sand, which traps particles, and returns it to the pool.

What the flow rate means

VEVOR rates the pump at a maximum of 4,400 gallons per hour (GPH), about 16,650 litres an hour. Pool owners often compare flow with pool volume: the aim is typically to pass all the pool water through the filter at least once a day, so a pool of around 10,000 gallons would turn over in roughly two and a half hours at the maximum rate. Real flow is lower once hoses, fittings and the filter bed add resistance, so check your pool volume and the manual's guidance.

Motor and tank

The pump uses a 0.75 HP motor. VEVOR describes it as a copper motor with overload protection for long runs; overload protection generally shuts the motor off if it overheats, which helps protect it. The 16-inch tank is made of reinforced, corrosion-resistant thermoplastic, which VEVOR says is easy to carry. Measured overall, the unit is about 23.4 x 20.5 x 25 inches.

The six-position valve

A multi-port valve controls where the water goes. The six modes on this unit are:

  • Filter: normal operation, water passes down through the sand and back to the pool.
  • Backwash: water runs in reverse to flush trapped dirt out of the sand and to waste.
  • Rinse: a short pass after backwashing to settle the sand before returning to Filter.
  • Waste: bypasses the sand and sends water to waste, useful for draining or lowering the pool level.
  • Winter: for storing the system over winter.
  • Closed: blocks the flow.

Backwashing is routine upkeep. Many owners do it when the pressure gauge rises noticeably above its clean reading, as the manual describes.

Connections and setup

VEVOR says key parts come pre-installed and that assembly is straightforward, even for first-time users. It also lists a sturdy multi-port valve and durable threaded fittings meant to reduce leaks, along with an included compatible adapter for hooking up above-ground frame pools. Always check that the hose or connection sizes on your pool match the adapter. Because this is an electrical appliance used near water, follow the manual and local electrical codes for placement and power.

Who it suits

It suits owners of above-ground and frame pools who want to replace or upgrade a small cartridge pump with a sand filter, and who are comfortable with periodic backwashing.

What to check before you buy

  • Pool volume: compare it with the 4,400 GPH maximum and the manual's turnover guidance.
  • Hose size: check your pool's fittings against the included adapter.
  • Sand: ask whether the sand is included, and what grade and amount the manual calls for.
  • Power and placement: use a suitable outlet, and follow the manual and local codes.
  • Drainage: plan where backwash and waste water will go.
  • Winter: check the manual for storage in cold climates.

The short version

  • A 16-inch sand filter with a 0.75 HP pump for above-ground pools.
  • Maximum flow of 4,400 GPH, with a copper motor and overload protection.
  • Six valve positions: Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Waste, Winter and Closed.
  • Thermoplastic tank, threaded fittings and an adapter for above-ground frame pools.
