The VEVOR HAP1100 is a single-speed swimming pool pump rated at 1.5 horsepower (1100W) on a 115-volt supply. Its job is to move water through the filter so the pool stays clear and circulating. VEVOR positions it for above-ground pools, and also mentions hot tubs, spas and irrigation use.

What the flow figures mean

VEVOR lists a maximum flow of 5,280 gallons per hour, which works out to 88 gallons per minute (about 333 litres per minute). It also rates the pump to lift water up to 43 feet (13 m). That lift figure is the "head": the total resistance the pump can work against, including height, pipe length, bends and the filter itself. In practice, flow drops as resistance rises, so the real-world number in your setup will be lower than the maximum.

A common rule of thumb is that a pool's whole volume should pass through the filter at least once a day, often more in hot weather. Compare the pump's flow with your pool's volume and with what your filter is rated to handle.

Motor and single-speed operation

The listing describes a pure copper motor in a stainless-steel shell, with built-in airflow ventilation and thermal overload protection. The impeller turns at up to 3,450 RPM. A single-speed pump runs at that one speed whenever it is on. Variable-speed pumps can run slower for long periods, but a single-speed model is simpler, and you control energy use mainly through how long you run it.

The pump is described as self-priming, meaning it can pull water up to the basket from a level below the pump. VEVOR also notes that the pump should be filled with water before its first use so the motor doesn't overheat. Running a pump dry is generally harmful to the seals and motor, so follow the manual's priming steps every time.

Basket, fittings and body

The strainer basket is detachable, with a transparent lid so you can see when debris needs clearing. A full basket cuts flow and makes the pump work harder, so checking it regularly is standard upkeep.

The connections are two 1-1/2 inch NPT female threads, one for the inlet and one for the outlet. VEVOR says no tools are needed to connect hoses. The box includes two 1-1/2 inch connectors and two hose adapters for 32 to 38 mm hoses, plus the manual. The body is one-piece ABS plastic, which VEVOR describes as corrosion-resistant and leak-resistant.

Power, certification and temperature

The pump comes with a three-prong plug on a 3-foot cord and has an earthing terminal. VEVOR says it has ETL certification. As with any pump near water, follow local electrical codes, use a properly protected outlet as required where you live, and read the manual before connecting it. Maximum water temperature is listed as 104°F (40°C).

Size and filter pairing

It measures about 21.8 x 9.9 x 10.3 inches and weighs 27 lb. VEVOR adds that if you pair it with a sand filter, you should choose one larger than 19 inches.

Who it suits

It suits owners of above-ground pools who want a straightforward single-speed circulation pump, or someone replacing an older pump with the same type of plumbing connections.

What to check before you buy

  • Pool volume and filter: make sure the listed flow suits your pool and doesn't exceed what your filter can take.
  • Fittings: confirm your hoses or pipes match 1-1/2 inch NPT or the supplied hose adapters.
  • Power: check that your outlet and circuit match a 115-volt, 1100W motor and that the cord reaches.
  • Placement: pumps need a dry, ventilated spot, as the manual describes.
  • Upkeep: plan to clear the basket often and to winterize as the manual directs.
