The VEVOR DQT-4JH is a four-stage, foot-braced hand pump that fills pre-charged pneumatic (PCP) airguns by hand, without a compressor or a scuba cylinder. VEVOR rates it for up to 4500 PSI (30 MPa). It also works as a general inflator for tyres, bicycles and similar items.

What "PCP" and four stages mean

A PCP airgun stores compressed air in a reservoir and releases a small amount with each shot. Those reservoirs are typically filled to pressures far beyond what an ordinary tyre pump can reach, which is why a purpose-built pump is needed.

Reaching very high pressure in a hand pump is done in steps. In a multi-stage pump, air is compressed in one chamber, passed to a smaller one and compressed again, and so on. VEVOR says its four stages let each stroke compress a large amount of air and save about 30% of the effort compared with conventional manual pumps. As a general rule, even with a multi-stage design, filling a reservoir to full pressure by hand takes many strokes and some time.

The oil and moisture filter

Compressing air produces moisture, and moisture inside an airgun reservoir is unwelcome. VEVOR fits a built-in oil-water filter that it says removes more than 90% of the water content, so the air going into the gun is drier. The brand also mentions use with scuba tanks. Air for breathing is a separate matter with its own standards, so follow the manual and the tank maker's guidance, and have any diving cylinder filled and inspected according to local rules.

Gauge and readings

The pump has a pressure gauge reading 0-6000 PSI, with two units shown (PSI and a metric unit). VEVOR says the dial has a night-vision feature so it can be read in dim light. A gauge range wider than the working pressure leaves headroom, but you should always stop at the maximum fill pressure given by your airgun's maker, not the pump's.

Build and handling

The pump tube is an integrated aluminium alloy, described as lightweight and rust-resistant, with a rubber handle for grip. A foldable base adds stability while pumping and makes the pump easier to pack away and carry. The whole unit weighs 4.7 lb (about 2.1 kg), so it fits in a gear bag.

Other things it can fill

Although designed around PCP airguns, VEVOR lists car, motorcycle and bicycle tyres, kayaks and soccer balls among the other uses. For those, the high-pressure design is more than is needed, so expect a stroke-by-stroke job rather than a quick top-up.

Who it suits

It suits airgun owners who want a self-contained, mains-free way to fill a reservoir, for example at a field or campsite, and who are comfortable with the time and effort a hand pump takes. People filling several guns often, or large reservoirs, may prefer other equipment.

What to check before you buy

  • Fill pressure: confirm your airgun's maximum fill pressure and the type of fitting it uses; you may need an adapter.
  • Effort and time: hand pumping to high pressure is physical work.
  • Air quality: if you plan to use it with a diving cylinder, check the relevant rules and the manual first.
  • Upkeep: the filter and seals are consumable parts, so check how and when to maintain them.
  • Safety: high-pressure air is hazardous. Follow the manual, never exceed the stated pressures, and use only equipment rated for the pressure.

The short version

  • A four-stage hand pump rated to 4500 PSI (30 MPa) for PCP airguns.
  • Built-in oil and moisture filter; VEVOR says it removes over 90% of water.
  • 0-6000 PSI gauge in two units, with a night-vision feature.
  • Aluminium alloy pump tube, rubber handle, foldable base; 4.7 lb.
  • Also listed for tyres, bicycles, kayaks and balls.
