The VEVOR Clear Bubble Tent is a large transparent dome shelter for gatherings, stargazing, sports spectating and camping. VEVOR describes it as suitable for 4 to 8 people, with a footprint of 10 x 9.2 feet, and it packs into a carry bag. Here is what its specifications mean.

The clear PVC dome

The tent is made from cold-resistant PVC plastic that VEVOR describes as tear-proof, with heat-sealed seams to keep out water, including in snowy conditions. The clear material gives a wide view of the surroundings; VEVOR advertises a 540° panoramic view. The shape is an eight-sided dome with two windows.

Clear PVC lets in a lot of light and heat. In general, in strong sun a closed clear tent can warm up quickly, so ventilation matters; the windows and the zippers help. In cold weather the same effect can make it feel less chilly, though a plastic shelter on its own is not a replacement for insulation or heating. Never use open flames or fuel heaters inside, and follow the manual.

Size and capacity

The listing gives the assembled size as 120 x 120 x 82.8 inches (about 3 x 3 x 2.1 metres), with a weight of 22.1 lb. At 82.8 inches tall, most adults can stand in the middle. The stated 4 to 8 people suits a seated group; the number of people who can lie down comfortably is lower, so measure your sleeping gear.

Poles, ropes and anchoring

The frame uses fibreglass poles, which are light and flex a little in wind. For stability, VEVOR includes wind ropes, glow-in-the-dark ground stakes (which help avoid tripping at night) and four sandbags. Domes with large flat surfaces can catch wind, so using every stake and rope is important, and any tent of this type should be taken down in strong wind. Double-sided zippers make the door easier to open from either side.

Setup and packing

VEVOR says the tent goes up in minutes without tools, with the poles forming the structure. It folds into the carry bag it comes with. As with most dome tents, setup is easier with two people.

What's in the box

1 tent, 13 support poles, 16 ground stakes, 8 wind ropes, 1 tension strap, 4 sandbags, 1 carry bag and 1 instruction manual.

Who it suits

It suits backyard parties, picnics, stargazing, watching outdoor sports in cooler weather, and events where the group wants shelter with a view. It is less suited to ultralight backpacking, because of its weight and bulk, or to harsh-weather expeditions.

What to check before you buy

  • Ground space: you need a flat, clear area of at least 10 x 10 feet, plus room for the ropes.
  • Ventilation: a clear, sealed tent can get warm and form condensation; check the windows and zippers.
  • Surface: stakes need soil; on hard surfaces you will rely on the sandbags.
  • Weather: check the wind limits in the manual and take the tent down in strong gusts.
  • Heating: do not use flames, stoves or fuel heaters inside.
  • Care: clean the PVC as the manual advises, and keep it dry when packed away.
