The VEVOR 1.5 HP Shallow Well Pump is a portable jet pump for moving clean water. Typical jobs include running sprinklers, boosting pressure, drawing from a shallow well, or transferring water from a rain barrel, pond or tank. It plugs into a 115V outlet and carries by its handle.
What the pump figures mean
VEVOR gives the pump a maximum flow of 1200 gallons per hour (GPH), a maximum pressure of 87 psi and a maximum head of 164 ft. Head is the height the pump can lift or push water against, and the figure is a ceiling. Real-world flow drops as the water has to travel higher, farther or through narrower hose.
The suction figure is just as important for a pump that draws water. VEVOR lists maximum suction at 26.2 ft. Jet pumps like this one are generally meant for shallow sources, where the water sits fairly close below the pump, rather than deep wells.
Materials and build
The pump head is stainless steel and the housing is cast aluminium. VEVOR says this resists rust and corrosion in long-term use and keeps the pump leak-free. The inlet and outlet are 1-inch NPT, and two hose adapters come with it.
The motor has built-in thermal and overload protection, and large cooling vents. VEVOR calls it low-noise and energy-efficient. The on/off switch is waterproof, and the pump is rated IPX4, meaning it is protected against splashes. It is ETL certified, according to the brand. IPX4 does not mean it should sit in the rain or stand in water.
Priming and clean water only
Two notes from the listing deserve attention. First, the pump head must be filled with water before use, which is called priming. Running a jet pump dry can damage it. Second, it works only with clean water, so avoid sand, silt, chemicals or debris. An inlet strainer or filter on the suction hose is a common precaution.
Where it fits
VEVOR lists use as a sprinkler pump, a well pump or a booster pump. That covers lawn and garden irrigation, drawing from ponds and lakes, filling tanks, and feeding fountains. At 26 lb (about 12 kg), it is easy to move to wherever the water is.
What to check before you buy
- Water source: check how far below the pump the water sits, since suction is limited to 26.2 ft at most.
- Hose and fittings: confirm your hoses match the 1-inch NPT ports, or that the supplied adapters suit your hose.
- Power: it needs a 115V supply; follow the manual for the outlet, extension cord and grounding.
- Water quality: it is for clean water only.
- Placement: keep it sheltered, level and ventilated, and drain it before freezing weather.
