The SENIX LSSG-H4 is a 22-inch self-propelled petrol mower with a 170cc four-cycle engine and rear-wheel drive. It has large rear wheels, a steel deck and three cutting modes. Here is what the specs mean and who the design suits.

The 170cc engine

SENIX lists a 170cc OHV four-cycle engine producing 3.8 HP and 6.4 lb-ft of torque. Torque is the twisting force that matters when the blade meets thick or damp grass. The brand says the engine needs no priming, no choking and no starting fluid, and starts on the first pull even after weeks of inactivity. Starting also depends on fresh fuel and maintenance: old petrol is a common cause of hard starting, so follow the manual on storage and fuel.

Rear-wheel drive and 11-inch wheels

Rear-wheel drive typically keeps traction when the grass bag is full and helps on gentle slopes, since the weight shifts toward the drive wheels. SENIX says the 11-inch rear wheels roll over bumps, roots and uneven ground more easily. Larger wheels generally cope better with rough lawns than small ones, though they make the mower slightly harder to turn on the spot. The listing gives its weight as 72.8 lb (about 33 kg), so the drive does the heavy work.

Vortex tunnel deck

The deck is described as a "patented vortex tunnel" design. SENIX says it creates airflow that lifts grass upright for an even cut and blows clippings out, helping prevent clogging on wet or overgrown lawns. In general, a well-shaped deck and a sharp blade matter as much as engine size for a clean cut. Mowing wet grass is still harder on any mower; waiting for dry conditions gives a better finish.

Blade and fuel use

The 22-inch blade is made from 40–65 manganese steel alloy hardened to 45–50 HRC, according to SENIX. Harder steel typically holds an edge longer, but blades still need sharpening and balancing. SENIX also says 0.8 L of petrol is enough for up to 9/20 of an acre; actual use varies with the grass and terrain.

Deck, heights and 3-in-1 modes

The deck is a steel frame made from DC04-06 steel, which SENIX says avoids plastic parts that could deform or crack. Six cutting heights run from 1.25 to 4 inches (about 3 to 10 cm). Mulching, bagging and side discharge are all supported, and the mower folds for storage. A two-year warranty is listed.

Who it suits

It suits owners of medium to large lawns, or lawns with some slope or bumps, who prefer walking to pushing. Anyone with limited storage should check the dimensions: about 32.8 x 24.1 x 15.9 inches.

What to check before you buy

  • Lawn terrain: rear-wheel drive and larger wheels help on uneven ground, but check the slope against the manual.
  • Weight: about 73 lb matters if you must lift it into a truck or over steps.
  • Clippings: choose between mulching, bagging and side discharge for your lawn.
  • Fuel and oil: know what the manual specifies, and keep petrol safely.
  • Local rules: check any limits on petrol equipment and mowing hours.
  • Upkeep: plan for blade sharpening, oil and air filter changes.
