The Restmo RF is a battery-powered water timer that screws onto an outdoor tap and opens and closes the flow on a schedule. It has two independent outlets, so one tap can feed two watering areas, and an RF remote lets you control it from up to 100 ft (30 m) away. It's meant for lawns, garden beds and drip lines you'd rather not water by hand.

Two zones from one tap

Each outlet works like its own timer. Press the zone button to pick the left outlet, the right outlet or both. That means you could run a sprinkler on the lawn on one schedule and a drip line on the vegetable bed on another, from a single tap. Restmo says the unit fits a 3/4-inch hose tap and works with water pressure of 8 to 120 psi.

Setting the schedule

An oversized dial sets the clock, start time, duration and frequency. Restmo gives these ranges:

  • Duration: 1 minute up to 4 hours 59 minutes.
  • Frequency: every 1 to 12 hours, or every 1 to 7 days.
  • Manual mode: 1 to 299 minutes of watering.
  • Rain delay: 24, 48 or 72 hours.

A large LCD shows the next watering time, current time and battery status. Long-pressing the "OK" and "-" buttons switches on manual or rain delay mode. The rain delay is a manual pause: you choose it when the weather changes, since the unit doesn't mention a rain sensor.

The RF remote

The included remote controls multiple timers, according to Restmo, so you can change schedules or start a manual run without walking back to the tap. The 100 ft range is the maker's figure, and walls, fences and distance can shorten any radio range in practice.

Brass fittings and weather protection

The inlet and outlets are solid brass, which typically resists thread damage better than plastic when tightened repeatedly. Restmo rates the timer IP55: protected against dust ingress and water jets. That suits an outdoor tap, though it's still wise to bring it indoors for winter, as most manufacturers advise for any tap fitting in freezing climates.

Power

It runs on two AA alkaline batteries, which aren't included. Restmo says they can last over a year.

Where you can use it

Restmo lists garden hose irrigation, lawn sprinklers, greenhouse misting, pool filling, birdbaths, rain barrels and pet water dispensers. It's about 5 x 3 x 5 inches (13 x 7.5 x 13 cm).

What to check before you buy

  • Tap thread: confirm your outdoor tap uses a standard 3/4-inch hose thread.
  • Water pressure: check that your supply falls in the 8-120 psi range.
  • Flow needs: consider whether the sprinklers on each outlet fit together on one tap.
  • Remote range: think about the distance and obstacles between the tap and where you'll stand.
  • Batteries: buy two AA alkaline cells, as none are included.
  • Winter care: plan to remove it before freezing weather.
