The Restmo O-HT-8-GN is a battery-powered hose timer that screws onto an outdoor tap and opens and closes the water on a schedule. It has two separate outlets, so one tap can feed two watering zones, such as a lawn sprinkler and a drip line.

Two zones, three programs each

Each outlet has its own valve and can hold up to three programs, giving six in total. A program is a start time, a duration and a frequency. Several programs per zone let you, for instance, water briefly in the morning and again in the evening, or run different schedules for a vegetable bed and a lawn.

Interval or weekly schedules

Restmo lists two ways to set frequency:

  • Interval: water every so many hours or days, from 1 hour to 30 days.
  • 7-day: pick specific days of the week.

Durations run from 1 minute to 4 hours 59 minutes. Interval mode is handy for a regular rhythm, while the weekly mode suits watering restrictions that apply on certain days.

Controls and display

A large dial selects TIME, P1, P2, P3 or AUTO. Set the time, set each program, then turn to AUTO to run. A ZN button switches between the left and right zones. The 3.2-inch LCD is meant to be easy to read at a distance. A long press on the manual button waters on demand without interrupting the saved programs, and a long press on the delay button postpones watering, which is useful after rain.

Water connection and pressure

The inlet is a pure brass swivel thread, 3/4-inch NH female, and the outlets are 3/4-inch NH male, which fit a standard garden hose and tap. The listing gives a working pressure of 8-120 psi (0.5-8 bar), a maximum flow of 10 GPM (35 L/min) and an operating temperature of 38-122°F (3-50°C). Because of the lower limit, timers like this are generally taken indoors or drained before freezing weather, so follow the manual.

Power

It runs on two alkaline batteries, which are not included. Restmo says they last about a year. The listing gives AA in one place and AAA in another, so check the battery compartment or manual before you buy replacements.

Weather resistance and size

The housing is described as weatherproof and UV-resistant for outdoor use. It measures about 5.3 x 5.1 x 3 inches (13.5 x 13 x 7.5 cm) and weighs around 15.7 oz (445 g).

Who it suits

It suits gardeners who want to automate a hose-fed lawn sprinkler, drip irrigation, greenhouse misting or a raised bed, particularly anyone with two areas that need different timing.

What to check before you buy

  • Tap thread: confirm your tap and hoses use standard 3/4-inch garden thread.
  • Pressure: very low or very high pressure is outside the 8-120 psi range.
  • Flow: confirm that drip lines or sprinklers need less than the 10 GPM maximum.
  • Batteries: get the right size and check them each season.
  • Winter: drain and bring the timer in before frost, as the manual advises.
  • Splitting: each outlet feeds one hose; extra splitters are your own choice.
