The monTEK VA1007RE is a steel wall mount that keeps a bicycle off the floor. Instead of lifting the bike onto a hook, you roll the rear wheel into a cradle, and the mount takes the weight. It is meant for garages, sheds and hallways where floor space is short.
Loading without lifting
monTEK says you balance the bike on its rear wheel and roll it into place, so no heavy lifting is needed. That is the main difference from a conventional hook. The mount suits people who find overhead lifting awkward, or who keep heavier bikes such as e-bikes, within the rated limit. When it isn't in use, the arm folds flat against the wall.
The 120-degree swivel
The mount pivots through 120 degrees. In practice, you can swing a mounted bike parallel to the wall to save space, and swing it out to take it off. That helps in a narrow garage where a bike sticking out would block the way.
Fit: wheels, tyres and fenders
The listing gives these limits:
- Wheel diameter from 16 to 29 inches, including the tyre.
- Tyre width up to 3.54 inches.
- Four length-adjustment levels to suit different bike sizes.
- Not compatible with bikes that have fenders (mudguards).
monTEK lists road, mountain, hybrid, BMX, city and e-bikes, and says it also fits folding and kids' bikes. The fender exclusion is the one most likely to rule it out, so check your bike first.
Strength and materials
The mount is industrial-grade steel with a black powder-coat finish, and the maximum load is 77 lbs (about 35 kg). Check your bike's weight, especially for an electric bike with a battery, which can weigh more than that.
Installing it
The kit contains mounting hardware, extra screws suitable for concrete, masonry or stud walls, and step-by-step instructions. monTEK says to install it on a wood stud wall or a concrete wall, and not on unsupported surfaces such as plasterboard unless there is a solid wooden stud behind it. Follow the manual, and use a stud finder.
Size
It measures about 24.6 x 4.4 x 9.3 inches (62.5 x 11 x 23.5 cm) and weighs 4.9 lb (2.2 kg).
Who it suits
It suits cyclists with a single bike or a few, who want it hung vertically near a wall, and households that share a garage with a car.
What to check before you buy
- Fenders: the mount isn't compatible with bikes that have them.
- Weight: make sure your bike, with accessories, is under 77 lbs.
- Wall type: confirm there is a stud or solid masonry where you plan to mount.
- Clearance: allow for the swing and for handlebar width.
- Tyre and wheel size: check against the limits above.
